Sep. 16th, 2006 11:51 pmSay, does anyone have Kate Debelack's e-mail? If so, e-mail it to me at jhefner2 at washcoll dot edu.
Because I am having a fucking hard time with her assignment to come up with 5 roles I want to play (with, again, excluding all "stylized" playwrights- Shakespeare, Chekhov, O'Neill, Stoppard, etc.). Between the remaining plays I have read/have access to, not bloody many fit my age range.

Date: 2006-09-17 11:37 am (UTC)I like Miller, but I don't know anything beyond Crucible and Death of a Salesman, the latter is not allowed. And Tennessee Williams, all I know is Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Streetcar, and I don't think I fit for either, do I? Is there anything else that comes to mind? I appreciate the help. Funny that you should think of Shape Of Things as well...

Date: 2006-09-17 01:35 pm (UTC)Oh, maybe Jason in Wit. He's the young clinical fellow who becomes obsessed with her medical case to the point that he tried to resucitate her as she is dying. very dramatic scene and a complex character as at first he comes off as just being interested in the medicine of it all, but it is later suspected that he has become emotionally involved with his patient.

Date: 2006-09-18 04:47 pm (UTC)But, weren't the five roles supposed to be from the list of plays that she gave to the class at the beginning of the term? In any event, the permissible roles will ultimately come from a very limited pool of plays that they use for all the classes every year.
For you, I can think of two appropriate ones from the list (that you could stretch to do beautifully): Joe from Golden Boy and Danny from Danny and the Deep Blue Sea.

Date: 2006-09-21 02:22 am (UTC)I don't know what plays she gave you to look at, so if you are limited to those I can't help you.
Are you limited to Miller and Williams? If so: yuck. Yeah, I teach both of them in my intro classes, but not because I love either of them.
How about Daisy in Baby with the Bathwater? You could have some fun with that one.
