I just spent about $125 in makeup and costume stuff. This had damn well be a halfway decent-looking Joker, by gum.

Of course, the wig majorly jacked things up some. They had a cheaper green wig, an Oompa Loompa wig, which might have worked if I were going for more of a Caesar Romero type Joker (I wouldn't have to shave my beard off either!). This was at the store that custom-made my Bill the Butcher costume, by the way, and my tailor told me they actually had a Joker wig special ordered, which he dug out for me. Only 30 bucks more expensive! Yeell.

The wig's color is absolutely perfect, a mix of dark green and black, but it's also kinda unruly. When I wear the bowler derby (big thanks to [livejournal.com profile] spirit_o_fire for supplying me with a poifect hat!) full on, the green hair hangs out from the sides. The result makes me look like CLOCKWORK ORANGE Joker, which might actually work. However, if I wear the hat tipped back, like on my monk's tonsure area, the unruly hair sticks out in front, making me look like a deranged version of Ducky. Which also might work. I'm still considering getting something to make my nose pointier, but we'll see.

Well, we'll see what works costume-wise when Bloo comes down next weekend. It probably goes without saying that I'm crazy excited about having her down for a short but awesome-tastic weekend. In addition to dragging her to two parties on that Saturday, I'm also trying to figure out what Halloween movie(s) to show her. I've narrowed the choices down to two of my very favorite horror movies, THE THING and THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE. But I'm also strongly considering my bootleg copy of one of the greatest movies ever made, MONSTER SQUAD.

Why this movie isn't on DVD is beyond me. It's the lost sibling to GOONIES, LOST BOYS, STAND BY ME, and GREMLINS. There was a whole 80's sub-genre of genuine kids in very real peril, movies that just aren't made anymore (except for MONSTER HOUSE. That was a glorious throwback.) Plus, it's the first script by Shane Black, the genius behind LETHAL WEAPON and KISS KISS, BANG BANG! All that is worth the price of a bootleg alone. If Bloo doesn't watch this with me, chances are she'll never see it.

Oh, and random last note: I bought a black fedora. No specific reason. My life is just that much more complete now.

Wolfman's got NARDS!

I'm not surprised that you've seen it. I'm working on making some more icons that only about three people will get. Along with my NIGHT OF THE CREEPS icons, I'll have a full Fred Dekker-fest!

SEEN it? I love that movie! It's one of Leonardo Cimino's finest roles, right up there with APT PUPIL (if memory serves.)
You and [livejournal.com profile] capnredbeard should talk more.

The most difficult part of Joker-ing, back when I did it for Halloween, was getting the mouth right. Good luck!

I got some lipstick with a brush appliactor and will try to apply it with the help of my girlfriend and/or mother. I'm not planning on applying it anywhere other than the lips, so none of that "extended to the cheeks" stuff for this Joker. This is Cabaret-style Joker anyway.

That will be great! Widening it was my make-up job's downfall.

It is! I love black fedoras. I bought one for a boy once. He turned out to be a jerk, but it's still an amazing hat.

Between that, the derby, and the headgear I got with Bloo, I am getting quite hatty!

Ducky as in "Pretty in Pink" Ducky?
I have rather a crush on him.
Don't know if that helps with the most auspicious hat placement for the Joker, but I felt the need to mention it.

Yes, that Ducky, and of course, Ducky is awesome! God DAMN them for not including the original ending on the DVD, the one where she goes off with Ducky instead of the handsome dude.

Kudos on the costume.

Do you know about it? I first heard about it from Guy Bender, I think. Or maybe it was an article related to Fred Dekker's other masterpiece, NIGHT OF THE CREEPS.

When I found the bootleg DVD at the horror convention (and saw it was co-written by SHANE BLACK!) I snapped it up.

Incidentally, the Dresden Dolls are playing here in Chicago on Friday night, and I am sorely tempted to head over there and possibly take notes/pictures/sketches/etc. I'll let you know what happens when I resurface.
