It was the summer of 2002. Specifically, just as I was doing MARVIN'S ROOM at GAC.

Since that time, I have performed in fourteen plays (seven at college, four with the Rudes), got a fire-engine red Chrysler Le Baron convertible, met and fell for Tammy, met Dave, lost the convertible, got a Corolla, went to Atlantic City, lost Tammy, met Misty, had my laptop die on me, got a new laptop, two of my dogs died, lost sixty pounds, got my first ever lead role in a play, lost my virginity, went through the Misty drama, written a full-length novel of hundred thousand words, graduated college, worked at the video store, quit the video store, had a couple foolish infatuations, parted ways with Dave, met Bloo, got my first paying role in theatre, and finished my second full-length book.

Before I'd ever fallen in love, driven a car, or ever conceived of the Hefner Monologues, I bought a pair of New Balance sneakers in the summer of 2002. Sneakers which I wore for virtually all of those above events. Sneakers which I am wearing at this very moment.

I think I need a new pair of shoes.

I think you're right. To go with being in a better place in your life. *hugs*

You need a pair of faux-ostrich Converse Weapons.
Changed my life.

Heck, I was just thinking 'cause they were old, smelly, and starting to fall apart.

But that works too!

You probably need new shoes. I have leather sandals I think I've had for over three years. I even accidentally stepped in sewage in a foreign country wearing them, and washed them off. The insoles are cracked, the bottoms are splitting, and I think I'll have to buy new ones when the stores start selling sandals again.

The unfortunate thing about having to do this is coping with the new styles adn the fact that the shoes your replacing probably aren't made naymore. Good luck.

History by old shoes. It's a good concept. Yours sound like they've done right by you. I have a pair that were given to me in grade eight by my supermodelesque Spanish friend, whose feet, like the rest of her, got too tall and elegant for them. Mine, like the rest of me, remained little. Now I'm 21 and those little gray-green mystery sneakers from Spain with a soft drink tab embedded in one of the laces are still doing their damnedest, and I haven't gone easy on them either (except in winter. Wearing sneakers in winter in Montreal is plain crazy). But new shoes are nice too. My yellow sneakers make me smile whenever I put them on.

That was probably one of the greatest LJ entries I've read ever.

...but SERIOUSLY. What IS IT with men and not buying new shoes? 4 years! That's crazy. Get your ass to Zappos.com, man!

Oh awesome, yayy! It sounded great in my head, so I'm glad to hear it! :)

Yeah, between being a man and being poor/cheap, I tend to use things until they are basically falling apart... and then I still use them a bit more before replacing them.

Man, I can't even get my sneakers to last a year. Those are some darn good shoes.
