So, everyone's voting tomorrow, yes? I'm getting up extra, extra early tomorrow morning to vote in person for the very first time. On a work day, no less.

FLUSHED AWAY was simply marvelous. Even though Nick Park had nothing to do with it (!!!), it was pure Aardman goodness from beginning to end. [livejournal.com profile] holli and I were convulsing the entire time, from all the little in-jokes (the costume that Roddy considers wearing in the first couple minutes of the movie) to the just excellent writing and animation (which was helped by how much they really tried to preserve the claymation aspect, right down to the fingerprints on the characters' bodies!). And, of course, the slugs. As predicted, yes, the slugs alone were worth the price of admission.

But there were some uniformly excellent performances, especially Ian McKellen, who was clearly having a marvelous time hamming it up like whoa. Jean Reno was a blast, although wow, I wonder how he felt about all the French mocking in the movie (his character alone is called "Le Frog" for God's sake). Kate Winslet is still hot and awesome even as a CGI Claymation rat. And Bill Nighy and Andy Serkis are the greatest henchmen duo ever.

I really hope this movie does well. For all the CGI kids movie crap that's been coming out (what's with that fucking talking baseball bat movie? Seriously!), Aardman seriously deserves more love and attention.

Has anyone a deep-seated knowledge of Tennessee Williams' THE GLASS MENAGERIE? I have been assigned the role of Tom for my Principles of Realism class and I need to come up with a pantomime based on a significant moment from his past, except that Tom HAS no such moments in the script, so I need to make one up! I have absolutely no idea what to do. Pantomime him in a movie theatre, watching newsreels about the Spanish Civil War and being bothered? I don't know!

Boothe and I saw Flushed Away this weekend too and I loved it! I prefer the Wallace and Gromit movies (probably in part because I'm sentimental and I remember them from childhood and such) but this one was a lot of fun.

And slugs! Eee so cute. :-)

Oh man, The Glass Menagerie. I wish I could help you out, but I've blocked the memory.

You could do his gratitude at the former popular guy getting the other factory workers to understand he's okay.

/not sure how, though...

Hmm, aye, the trick is trying to do it in pantomime. Your idea might work, and my teacher would absolutely say it could be done, but the trick is thinking up how.

The easier one will be the next assignment, which can be done with dialogue. That's the one that might work better with your idea, but I dunno. It's tough either way.
