I was just remarking to [livejournal.com profile] fishymcb my half-ironic wonderment that Meat Loaf isn't more popular. His newest album in particular sounds remarkably modern and a couple of these songs could fit very well on a rock station, like way better versions of Evanescence and Nickleback. I just can't understand why today's youth can't get into him. Why, he's like fat, ugly, craggy Amy Lee!

To which Kevin laughed and said, "So he's Amy Lee in 10 years."

Zing.

wow I never thought someone would compare Evanescence to Meat Loaf, not that one is so vastly superior that it's blasphemous, more that the two groups are so different musically. It's true, all I've heard of Meat Loaf is Paradise by the Dashboard Lights and I Would Do Anything for Love (both of which made it onto my Ipod), so I'm by no means an expert on his music. But even though they can both be categorized as "rock" music it's like comparing apples and carrots.

On a side note, they play I Would Do Anything... over the speakers at work. It's one of the highlights of the job.

Find "Blind as a Bat." A couple videos on youtube use the song. Give it a listen. I compare the two because they're both over-the-top sweepingly theatrical frilly shirt music, know what I mean? Evanescence is a bit more "Hot Topic," while Meat, classically, is more hot-rods-and-choppers-rock.

And actually, seriously? Buy "Bat Out of Hell." The entire album is worth owning.

My knowledge of Meatloaf doesn't really extend much past "Bat Out of Hell" and "The Rocky Horror Picture Show", but Eddie's my favourite character.

Have you heard all of "Bat Out of Hell," or just the title song?

Honestly, there's not too terribly much he's done that's up to that album's level, but songs like "Original Sin," "I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)" and "Blind As A Bat" I totally recommend.
