Kate, my Principles of Realism teacher, said I've nailed the character of Tom in The Glass Menagerie. Her advice is basically to just keep doing what I'm doing. This is damn encouraging, but I still don't know if it means I'm going to graduate.

Here's the thing about Studio: if the teacher doesn't pass you, you can't advance to the higher levels. And the word is that many students don't end up passing at all. If you don't pass, you have to take Principles again. And again and again until it's deemed that you are good enough to pass. The fact that there are four Principles classes (the prerequisite) and only two Character and Emotion (the next step up), says it all right there, doesn't it?

Lord knows if I'm going to pass. On one hand, Kate's impressed with what we've done. She chose this scene at the last minute, and I like to think that the fact that she chose such a hard fucking scene for us speaks for her confidence in us, my partner and I. But on the other hand, Studio is a cruel mistress, so who the hell knows?

My plan is this: if I do pass, you betcher arse I'm taking Character and Emotion. But if I don't pass, there's no way in hell I'm talking Principles again. No way in fucking hell. I'm going straight to Shakespeare Theatre's classes in that case. I want to take a class with Floyd King and Andrew Long, damn it!

Studio's offering a full-blown Alexander Technique class and also an Alexander Technique workshop, which would only meet a couple of times. I'm not sure which of those I should take.

I suppose I really should start auditioning again. I really wish I had an agent or someone in the know to point me to projects and say, "Hey, you should try out for that."

You'll get passed. The fact that she thinks you nailed the role means all signs point to go forward ... plus, giving you Tennessee Williams was a sign of her faith in you. You'll get passed.

When is the date again?

Thinking of taking that workshop too. I need Alexander in a bad way and I'll be in comedy so any help with the physical is wanted and welcomed.

I cannot say enough good things about the Alexander Technique. It will show you stuff about your body that you never knew were possible.

That being said, you'd get some benefit out of the workshops, but the more you take, the better and longer-lasting the results. So I'd recommend the class.

Of course, their Alexander teacher might suck. In which case that would be a problem. The quality of the Technique is heavily dependent on who's teaching.

Thanks, I think I'll do just that! Unless someone else chimes in with a convincing argument in the meantime, of course, but that sounds great to me.

Oh, but of course! I actually send the i-mockery article to kali when she was asking what the big deal about this "Monster Squad" thing was. Hell, dude, where do you think I got the image for this icon?! Certainly not the low-quality bootleg!

Hehe, that's assuming I can keep doing what I did last class. She's tweaked us so much and corrected us when we *thought* we were good that neither my partner nor I exactly know what we're doing anymore!

Yes, I should make an announcement of the dates! It will be the 23rd of January, that's a Tuesday.

Aye, mayhap my contact at Catholic University's graduate program will be able to shed some light as to the Alexander programs. Although I'd presume they're taught by the same person.

The workshop might be nice because it could give me more free time to actually audition. Although honestly, I scour the audition pages and I have no idea what's good and what isn't. But I really should get back to actual acting at some point soon.

I agree with Bear, start with workshop and see if you like it.

Don't be daft, of course you'll pass Principles. DO take Character and so on. Shakespeare class is a dream; try to get Joy Zinoman if she's still teaching it. WARNING: she's not for the faint of heart. But she is crazy...and I know you like that.

When are final scenes?

I do not say this lightly, but when I interned at Studio, my very first thought upon meeting Joy? The initial reaction that was not honestly disproved in the two and a half months I was slave labor there? "Wow, this woman... is evil."

So yeah, I don't think I'll be taking that class. Honestly, I need more help with realism acting than Shakespeare, and if I really need a Shakespeare class, I'll opt for Floyd King at Shakespeare Theatre.
