Damn you, Space Hitler!
Jun. 26th, 2007 06:30 pmI don't think I've said "Aw suh-NAP" as many times in the space of a single comic reading as I did with GREEN LANTERN: SINESTRO CORPS SPECIAL # 1. I desperately wish someone who could appreciate all things GL would be on-line right now so that I might geek out.
This promises to be DC's answer to ANNIHILATION, which
spacechild and
kali921 hold up as the greatest comic crossover ever, which might well be true, considering the competition.
Just when I thought the last big twist hit, then came another one. This is one of those rare moments where, even though the heroes are obviously gonna win like they always do, I actually went, "Shit, the good guys are screwed, man."
Bear in mind, I speak as a big ol' Green Lantern Corps geek from way back (by which I mean, middle school), and lord knows when it comes to GL, you either love it (or certain characters/aspects) or hate it (ditto). Actually, I think it's possible to be passionately apathetic towards GL stuff.
But for me, ohhh man, I'm excited. More excited than anything that's happened in DC or Marvel for years now. And the
scans_daily folks are likely gonna go into a total hissy fit when their fears of one certain character are confirmed. I don't know how long I'll be able to say, "Um, it's a superhero comic, he/she'll be fine" before I just give up and leave them to their wankery. Like I said, where Green Lantern is concerned, no matter who "your" Green Lantern may be, passions and tempers run high. It's like the abortion debate of superhero comics.
Seriously, man, Annihilus and the Phalanx ain't got jack on what's coming after the GLC. This shit had better be epic, man.

Date: 2007-06-26 11:10 pm (UTC)DO NOT DISS ON ANNIHILATION! What's this about "may be true, considering the competition"??!! Them's fightin' words, bub. FIGHTING WORDS.
It's like the abortion debate of superhero comics.
AHAHAHA SO TRUE. SO VERY TRUE.
As soon as I get home, I will hop online to discuss!

Date: 2007-06-26 11:16 pm (UTC)I got into it with that guy over the possibility that they were going to Parallax-up Kyle Rayner, and he went out of his way to be a smarm-factory. I'm willing to bet that this: And the scans_daily folks are likely gonna go into a total hissy fit when their fears of one certain character are confirmed. has to do with Kyle. So, I should skip it.
Re: ....abwuh?
Date: 2007-06-26 11:22 pm (UTC)What I alluded to does indeed have to do with Kyle, but I wouldn't worry. The way it's set up, I sincerely doubt that Kyle's out of the picture. He has a far too personal stake in this now.
Read it. And see where it's going. I think it's a good time to be a Kyle fan, especially considering Ron Marz has a personal hand in what's going on.
I say again, what?

You say context, context I bring.

2 men enter, one man leaves.

Date: 2007-06-28 07:52 pm (UTC)Much as kali disagrees with me, I just do not think anything in Annihilation (or honestly dude, anybody in any big DC or Marvel battle EVER) can stand up to the sheer amount of screwed-itude facing the GLC, not to mention the DCU itself.
In fact, much of the stuff I'm gonna lend to you is going to serve as building around and up to this. I wasn't going to dig out things like either of the Crisisesisesises, but I'm totally gonna do it now. I don't like 'em, but much like Civil War, they're essential to the canon now, for good or ill.

Date: 2007-06-29 11:24 pm (UTC)Anyway I feel that both GLC: Sinestro Corp. and Annihilations are both pretty decent books, Annihilation right now being the saving grace of Marvel crossovers.
