Tammy called me up this morning.
And no, that's not the news I'm excited about, although it's fascinating that she, of all people, should be the one to call me up to tell me this news. Tammy of ALL people!
For those who don't know Tammy, the short version is that she's more or less the reason why I started telling The Hefner Monologues. We're on good terms, but because she's the flightiest girl I've ever known, we have virtually no contact today (and even though I'm pretty well totally over her, that's likely for the best). So what would possibly make her call him up?
"Did you read the Sunday Source section of the Washington Post???"
"No... why?"
Well, they have a top five "Can't Miss" list, with such things as the new Harry Potter book's release, a live big-screen showing of the Buffy musical episode, and at number one, the Capital Fringe Festival. So what?
Um... so THAT.
...
...
Tammy said that I was hyperventilating when she told me the news.
(She said that I beat out Buffy and Harry Potter, and while that's technically not true... YEAH, FUCK YOU, J.K. JOSS!!! ;p )
She also said something about a listing somewhere in the Post or the Fringe guide or something that lists the most notable shows for each day, and on one of them, THE HEFNER MONOLOGUES is at the top.
This bodes very well for the possibility that people could get hooked by the name/premise alone. I was still so afraid that people would see "one man show" and get scared off. But dude... people are interested. People are fucking interested. And what's more, after performing it for the first time last night, in front of an audience of a dozen or so people... I now know that I have a great show here.
Between this and the upcoming ad in the Washington CityPaper, I'm hoping to pack the 35-seat theater space for all five performances.
Rock. And fucking ROLL.

Date: 2007-07-15 08:03 pm (UTC)Sorry. I often use the same song, as phonetically noted above, for my end-of-the-day-and-I-still-lack-bullet-holes Happy Dance.

Date: 2007-07-15 07:06 pm (UTC)Also, did you notice that my friend hijacked our thread on the Joker scans_daily post?
Should you have anything further to add on the subject of Harvey and/or Guy, by all means, let me know. I'm always anxious to geek out. I say this because a cute but ditzy girl came in and bought HUSH, saying "Oh, I love everything Jeph Loeb does!' and yesterday, I had to content with a grinning, giggling frat boy who kept going on about how awesome HUSH and LONG HALLOWEEN were, and did I have anything like that? I tried to get him to check out stuff like the "Laughing Fish" and he said, "Ugh, I hate stuff that looks old like that."
I had to fight not to shove all our copies of DARK VICTORY down his throat.

Date: 2007-07-16 03:10 pm (UTC)i'm a little hesitant about them toting it as being all about you being what's-his-name's second cousin (because that's really such a tiny part of it next to who YOU are), but really? it's publicity, and it pushes you to the forefront.
rock on.

but my thoughts on all of this are exactly that, my thoughts. you do what you feel is best for this.
