Couple new trailers worth time, attention, and--perhaps, indeed--love.

WALL*E

Why haven't we been hearing more about Pixar's latest here? Are we just assuming that, since it's a Pixar/Disney movie, it's already gonna be all over the place in a few months' time, so why bother starting now? Whatever the reason, even the Pixar fan that I am was surprised by this trailer.

A post-apocalyptic film the whole family can enjoy! Or is it that humanity has just abandoned a ruined and wasted Earth? I think it's the latter, but I'm going to pretend it's the former for as long as I can.

HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY

... yes.

I really have nothing else to offer. Look at that shit, man! Whee!

Hellboy has the best, BEST scene of sheer romantic stupidity ever filmed.

Hellboy is writing a letter to the girl.

The girl walks in unexpectedly.

Hellboy springs up to hide his shame.

We find a veritable sea of crumpled up notes all over the floor.

Girl sees notes,

Hellboy sees notes.

Hellboy tries to nonchalantly push a few under the bed with his foot, anyway, as if that will make it all ok...

It is precious.

Got to see that film someday.

I'd forgotten about that. Absolutely right, what a fantastic moment of sheer romantic stupidity.

WALL*E: Wow.

I mean, yeah. I don't expect them to get into any of the potential social commentary of how the world gets into that shape 700 years from now, or even to hint at it being a bad thing, really. But wow. With all that they've chosen NOT to show us yet, it's definitely food for thought... which is carrot on a stick to me. (Which is what Pixar always hopes for, and usually doesn't disappoint in eventually satisfying.)

Dying to see if that works. It sounds like there will be essentially no dialogue, which has always worked beautifully in the trailers.

They just had Ratatouille last summer, and Cars the summer before that... I wonder if they're ramping up to one a year.

I wouldn't be too sure of that - after all, by the end of the trailer he wasn't alone anymore!

But then, I'm still bitter and skeptical about trailer fakeouts after Dinosaur, so don't mind me. XD

And wait a minute. Listen to the music. It's so like "Brazil." So maybe it IS going to deal a little bit with post-apo dystopia.

This is the face I'm making now:

:D

Also, I motion that Del Toro should never be allowed to make another movie again unless it contains at least one amazingly designed monster. All in favor?

Except what if Del Toro decides to make, say, THE GREAT GATSBY? Or THE BROTHERS KARAMAZOV?

I think there are few works of great literature out there that would not be improved with the addition of a beast that looks like the result of the drunken coupling of a member of the Mayan pantheon and an Elder God.

...and it would be probably still be a better page to screen adaptation compared to something like How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

WALL*E looks absurdly cute. It's amazing that a computer generated robot can have such personality.

Hellboy + Ron Perlman='s LOVE. I can't wait until this summer.

I love how Del Toro and Mingola met to discuss HELLBOY in the early stages, and each said to the other, "There's only one person who can play him: Ron Perlman."

Also, your icon amuses me. "Oh what were you expecting, a ROUND number?"

They both look great! Although I am sad that the cute little BPRD agent created just for the first HELLBOY movie won't be back. He was gormless, and yet adorable.

Yes, well, he might possibly be Superman in the JUSTICE LEAGUE movie, but who the hell knows with that movie these days. Shit, last I heard, they were changing the title (and according to Christian Bale in an interview, the title is now AMERICAN HEROES).

But again, who the fuck knows, right? The only reason I haven't ranted about such things--namely the title change--is because it's all so fuzzy and uncertain at the moment, particularly with the writer's strike.

-- Really? Oh dear, now that would just be bizarre.

And what a terrible name.

God, isn't it?!?!

Hopefully it won't be true. But apparently they are changing the title. Whiskey tango foxtrot.

But but but. Everyone knows what the Justice League is, damnit! Work with your brand power!

I agree with you, Wall E does look fantastic.

I will see the new "Heckboy" movie if nothing else than becuase I like the director and I thought the first one was cool. Have you seen Cronos? I think that's the name of one of his earlier pieces.

From: [identity profile] thehefner.livejournal.com
I have not seen CHRONOS, though I mean to, even though I've heard mixed things about it. I also need to see THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE, which I understand is second only to PAN'S LABYRINTH as his greatest film.
