Yo Teasle!
Dec. 24th, 2007 12:55 amWelp, I finally read FIRST BLOOD, in preparation for the new RAMBO flick, as I'd never seen a single one of the films. Having finished the book, let me just say... well now, I'm gonna guess the movie isn't quite faithful to the book.
As with SUPERMAN: RED SON, I do enjoy a good story with three-dimensional characters and serious moral ambiguity. I often didn't know with whom I should sympathize (although ultimately, I think the Sheriff was the hero, no matter what the paperback cover says).
I'm totally gonna plow through all three RAMBO movies next week and then see Lumpy!Stallone in the new one, which is getting zilch by way of marketing. I doubt it'll be as epic and moving as watching the entire ROCKY saga for the first time within a week, but it should be interesting.
And maybe afterward, as a bonus extra, I'll watch William Friedkin's THE HUNTED, with Benicio Del Toro and Tommy Lee Jones. It's supposedly an unappreciated gem, partially because Benicio's character might be a big-ol' Rambo rip-off. It'll be interesting to compare him to the Rambo of the book and movies.
That said, the Saturday morning animated kids show of RAMBO is now exceedingly hilarious. I think I had the action figure back in the day! He was smiling!
