NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN!

BLADE RUNNER: THE FINAL CUT!

BEOWULF in IMAX 3D!

They're all out now, and I need to see them all, like, yesterday!!! God, it's been so long since there's been one single film I've been simply itchin' and dyin' to see, and now there are THREE! And everyone else has a head start! GAHH!

I hit up an animation festival at Rehoboth beach yesterday. Those are always mixed bags, but rarely uninteresting. But I mainly went because of the two brand-new Don Hertzfeldt shorts! Half of the fun was listening to the confusion and frustration of the beach patrons who've clearly never seen REJECTED.

The man is amazing. Even a genius, perhaps? His latest short, THE MEANING OF LIFE took four years to make, from which he did it all entirely by hand, no computers. It's a real step up in terms of ambition and scope for Don, because while there are distinct similarities to his "I am a BANANA!" style, he's also shooting for grander ideas rather than simple surreal humor.

I still don't quite have any idea what THE MEANING OF LIFE and EVERYTHING WILL BE OK were about, but I can't wait to see them again.

OH THANK GOD I'm not the only excited about Beowulf. No one I know wants to go see it because, oh DEAR, it's CGI!

BASTARDOS! The voice talent ALONE compels thee to see it!

Can I fly out there and go see it with you guys?

Everyone's weirded out by the Uncanny Valley element. When I tell them Neil Gaiman (co-)wrote it, that usually changes their tune.

It keeps getting rave reviews, but constant urgings that it HAS to be seen in 3D. Sadly, the IMAX theaters here don't seem to be shaping up to show the film! Jerks.

DO EET. Sutherland compells you.

We have a gigantoid IMAX in downtown San Francisco, so I can go there, if it's playing.

Also, definitive director's cut of BLADE RUNNER, oh mah GAWD. You know how excited I've been about this!

You know what sucks? LUST, CAUTION only played at ONE theater in San Francisco. What happened to our reputation as a libertine city???!?!??!?! Arty Ang Lee porn should be shown at least in five different theaters here!

If so, I envy you. Good luck!

The actual content of the BLADE RUNNER final cut sounds dubious (they clearly have Roy say "father"? I so dearly loved the ambigious way he desperately sneered, "I want more LIFE, father/fucker!"), but the remastering is supposedly absolutely fucking gorgeous oh my god see it on the big screen wow..

Arty Ang Lee porn should be shown at least in five different theaters here!

I am shocked. Shocked!

I long for the Barbary Coast days of yore, which is, of course, the foundation for San Francisco's famous tolerance.

But still. I'm really surprised. You can't find porn in this city in movie theaters.

I blame Mayor Gavin Newsom. Sure, on the national political scale he's a progressive leftie, but he's all about selling out to big business and developers, and as an ugly consequence, we has NO PORN.

I'M TOTALLY GONNA SEE BEOWULF IN 3D! EVEN IF IT MEANS GOING TO NAVY PIER. I actually planed on watching it that way even before Neil was "OMG it's so much better!1!" simply because I'm a loser who just really likes 3D. I don't care if it means I'm a giant uncultured dorkus, it's friggin' cool. Beowulf isn't showing until Friday though, so maybe you'll catch it before I can?

In any case, it still physically pains me that I cannot watch Blade Runner: The Final Cut in theaters. *insert pained expression of tragedy and woe*

Are you sure it's not playing in Chicago yet? I'm fairly certain it is! *looks it up* Yep, it's at the "Music Box," wherever that is. Good luck!

What's playing, Beowulf or Blade Runner? Because Beowulf doesn't come out until the 15th in any theater anywhere near Chicago and Blade Runner is not showing...?

... sorry, I didn't think! I shoulda told Bloo too. I failed both of my Chicago ladies. Well, three, if you could my second ex. I'll have to tell her about the Christmas one too, and all four of us can go hang out and have the most gloriously awkward dinner-and-a-movie ever!
