A SPIRIT... er, I mean, GREYSHIRT Primer.
Jul. 27th, 2008 03:18 pmOne of these days, I--or someone else--will post a whole bunch of classic Will Eisner THE SPIRIT strips to show everyone what Eisner was capable of doing, why he's so important, and not just what makes THE SPIRIT awesome, but what makes it... well, THE SPIRIT (as opposed to Frank Miller's Robert Rodriguiez's THE SPIRIT).
Until then, allow me to present Alan Moore's downright moving tribute, A GREYSHIRT PRIMER.
In Moore's "Greyshirt" pastiche stories, he pulled off a better recreation of (and homage to) Eisner's style than anyone else I've ever seen, period. He's Alan Moore, after all. And while it may totally backwards to offer this as an introduction to Eisner, I think it at least offers up a succinct explanation for people who will wonder my brains are splattered all over the floor after seeing the Frank Miller trailer.
