Hot damn, I've officially signed up for Robert McKee's "Story" seminar! Most of you probably know McKee from the great--and frequently misunderstood--Spike Jonze/Charlie Kaufman film ADAPTATION, where he was played by man-god Brian Cox. Yes, I think this will indeed serve as a fine excuse for not going back to the Studio Conservatory.

I'll need to find a place to stay in NYC for the weekend of October 24-26. I have a couple relatives up there who will hopefully be able to let me sleep on their floor, otherwise, I dunno, find a youth hostel or something.

After that, I might stick around NYC a bit, catch a play, or maybe I'll hit the road. After all, that might well be the perfect kick-off for my next big plan: freaky beatnik road trip!

I'm currently scouring routes in Road Trip USA, thinking about taking the interesting routes to Chicago, see Bloo and Misty, then hit Route 66. I'll post more as plans solidify (I'm not rushing into this unprepared, rest assured), but I think I know how I'll be spending the next four or five months.

I live in Manhattan. I'd let you crash on my couch but I live at my mom's and, you know, I don't know you that well. But I look forward to seeing you. I know all the places hip and with-it kids hang out, trust me.

(I was wandering unemployed from couch to couch without much of a plan and even less money in the bank. And, sadly, I did spend most of that time no couches--not out having actual adventures like I should have.)

Perfectly understood and all right. Let's definitely get together, I trust your guidance to hip and with-it joints. Let's reconvene once plans start to come together more. I doubt I'll have a moment's free time on that actual weekend (the seminars all three days start at 9am and end at 8:30pm, so they're goddamn intensive) but I think I'd like to hang around a bit longer if I could anyway. Hopefully said family members will be able to hook me up. We'll get to that when we get to that.

Having a goal to build the destination around (i.e. having a girlfriend in Vancouver) also helps as motivation. :)

But yeah, one of the many ways this trip will be good for me is that it will teach me to be a bit more budget conscious, while hopefully still having adventures and an actual good nights sleep now and again.

Are you actually in the city proper or can get there? It's looking like I'll be bussing up there and staying at a hostel, so how's Thursday the 23rd sound to you? The seminar is intensive and covers the whole weekend. I'll definitely plan around when you're available.

Aha, I am one step ahead! At her request, I once sent her a couple comics that were sold out from her store. So theoretically, the address she gave me was real, and an actual flesh and blood human being took the comics!

But still, that's hardly substantive enough evidence. Could have been a red herring.
