My Chicago weekend was dedicated to five things: ex-girlfriends, downtime, Route 66 plotting, awesome tacos, and mustaches.

Bloo took me to The Boring Store, whereupon she took pictures of me trying on a number of cunning disguises. The above was, of course, my Bill the Butcher.

This is El Heffie, the suave Tom Selleck type lothario.

And this would be Hulk Hefner, calling you out for a steel cage match.

Beyond this, I don't have many photos. I meant to get pictures of myself with Bloo (where I'd be looking totally goofy and silly) and her boyfriend (where I'd be looking sulky and grim), but it sadly never happened. Seriously, he's a cool guy, even if he makes me look subdued and boring by comparison. It's so nice that Bloo found a guy who can appreciate mustard like she can.

Thankfully, I was able to hang out with my fellow ketchup-lover, and ex-girlfriend number two, Misty. Now that's a girl who sees the romance and awesomeness in the fantasy of a full breakfast in bed of tater tots and a trough of ketchup.

Sadly, I'm not able to go into much more detail than all this. As with so many of these forthcoming entries, I must warn you that I shall be saving the really good stuff, the true stories of this adventure, for a later period. Probably for a book. Because I can tell you right now, this is a book, all this stuff which you guys don't know about yet. But I can't write it until it's written, so to speak. So in the meantime, except more pictures, silliness, and tantalizing hints of what's really going on behind the scenes!

For now, time to conk out and rest up for tomorrow. Gotta get up at 6:30am to hit the remnants of Route 66! Tomorrow, the real adventure begins.

With that in mind, a big apology to [livejournal.com profile] civilbloodshed for not thinking to hit you up! So much else going on, I totally neglected to give you a heads-up. If you get this Monday morning before 7:30am, hit me up and maybe I can swing by or something. Otherwise, sorry and hopefully our paths will meet again!

I would just like to say that "Fim Noir" being right above "Kitchens" just made me cough up a lung laughing.

Aye, that was from the wall of Hats for all occasions, neatly listed according to category! But one of many of the awesome things to be found at The Boring Store.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

The shot of the twenty five surveillance cameras just KILLED ME. Oh my god, GENIUS. (And somewhere I have a link to a website describing a multimedia art project by some German woman that describes how people who have too many surveillance cameras in their homes are "psychic prisoners.")

In other news, you know how I think that most fanvids are utter crap because they all use the same songs by Nightwish/Arcade Fire/The Killers/The New Pornographers/Linkin Park/*insert overplayed band here*? Other than the awesome videos that the kaiju genre seems to generate on almost a daily basis? (Like that awesome Gamera vs. Killing Joke one I linked you to some many months back.)

I found this piece of AWESOMENESS earlier today after remembering that a friend of mine is pitching a new Terminator series - the first 1:45 are set to State of Mind's "Sun King," and pretty much every time State of Mind records a piece of music, it's epic, cinematic, haunting, evocative, and sounds like it's been mailed in from the 30th century with liner notes in Interlac:

TERMINATOR VS. DRUM AND BASS

+

If more people set their fanvids to Music of the Fewchah, I wouldn't hate on fanvids so much.

State of Mind are, by the way, from New Zealand, host the internationally famous The New Level radio show, and have never put out a bad song, EVER.

I may not have taken advantage of all Chicago has to offer this short weekend (it's fucking cold and I'm on a budget), but the Boring Store was definitely a highlight. Hilarity and delightfulness abounds, clearly.

Nightwish/Arcade Fire/The Killers/The New Pornographers/Linkin Park/

Jesus, you absolutely nailed it: those are the most abused and overused bands for fanvids. Kill me now. But that TERMINATOR one is indeed pretty sweet.

Oh, I've got a laundry list of bands that are overused in fanvids to the point that I can't listen to any of them anymore. Even if I were thusly inclined in the first place.

Actually, it's just that first 1:37 of the above Terminator 3 vs. Drum and Bass that is SO perfect - just a perfect melding of post-apocalyptic imagery, sweetly and chillingly desolate music, and shiny metal badassery.

I'm thinking that you haven't seen the video that Aleks Sakowski did for SOM for the full version of Sun King? Brilliant, disturbing, uber-trippy stop motion:

And the full song. Or one of the mixes, at least.

OK, the mustaches on a stick... pretty cool. :)

Aren't ex-girlfriend tours the best? (Well, if you're on good terms with said exes, at least.) My last big spring break trip in college was an ex-girlfriend tour. Was good... left me smiling the whole way.

It was either that or the total lack of sleep.

Either way, sounds like a good bounce-back after the flat. :)

Someone's channeling their inner Yogi Berra.

You and Misty, hanging out - thumbs up back at you.

You need a Danny Trejo. (On a schteek.)

Wow! I'd never seen that picture before! I didn't even realize we had a good-quality one of us in costume! (Jeez, and I thought my hair was thinning *then*...) Utter awesomeness!
