Tomorrow's my court date. *shudder*. I'm gonna work up a draft of what I'm gonna say. I'm still scared, because it was reckless driving, first offense or no first offense, and I just really really don't want them points. Any of them. I'm preparing to be reamed out by the judge, and hoping he/she will be understanding and compassionate. My experience with figures of government and authority has me half-expecting to get Judge Ratched.

Any final words of advice/comfort would be much appreciated (I've been using that word way too much recently. Where's the Goddamned thesarus?!)

Fear isn't a bad response, it's what the judge is looking for from someone in your position.
I've gotten in trouble in the past from objectively backing away from my emotions in similar circumstances. "Fear is the mind killer..." and all that.

Probably too late, but...

A good judge will note your fear and conclude that you're an Honest Law-Abiding Citizen who will Never Do This Again. They like that. They give slaps on the wrist for that.

That said, don't try to overplay the fear, Mr. Actor Guy. :-)

Also, be sure to dress well. I saw guy show up in shorts because he came straight from a workout, and got chewed out by the judge. Wear something maybe a step down from "job interview". As in, a tie is fine, but not necessary. If blue jeans, then very nice blue jeans. Slacks and a belt and a button-down shirt is best.

Good luck, and welcome to the American justice system.

Dunno what to tell you, my friend; pleading 'nolo contendere' got me a smile from the judge, but it also got me the maximum possible fine when I was standing in your shoes. I don't know what works, and I only have a dim sense of what doesn't. All I can tell you is that no matter how badly it goes tomorrow, there will be a next day, and a day after that, and this will be a distant memory soon enough. This too shall pass.
