mirthical, who saw this and for some reason thought of me.

I'm just saying, if that's supposed to be Dr. Manhattan, it should glow in the dark and/or feel like a D battery when you put your tongue on it.
By the way, WATCHMEN's theatrical length will be 156 minutes long. The subsequent Director's Cut will be 190 minutes, which in Snyder's words will be "considerably more violent... and sexier." Whatever that means.
And then, in the Fall, they'll release another cut down the line, splicing in this*, which will be hitting DVDs at the end of March:
So that the full, final version of WATCHMEN the movie will ultimately be 205 minutes. And that's not even counting the UNDER THE HOOD "documentary," included with the TALES OF THE BLACK FREIGHTER DVD.
It ain't a 12-part HBO mini-series, but that's still pretty goddamned impressive.
Hell with the worry and the apprehension and the snobbery. March 6th needs to fucking get here fucking NOW.
*Among other things, including cut scenes like more Dr. Manhattan on Mars, dialogue scenes at the newsstand, and the death of a certain character that involves a statue. At first, it's hard to imagine those last two not being in the final cut, but then you remember just how much fucking stuff there is in WATCHMEN.

Date: 2009-02-20 03:59 am (UTC)I'm just hoping the hardcore fans keep that in mind when they see the theatrical version. They're gonna have plenty to dissect, love, and/or loathe, but hopefully they'll remember that they won't see the true, final film until the Fall.
Granted, if the theatrical release isn't that good in the first place, I'm not sure how much the final cut will help. But then again, the Director's Cut of DAREDEVIL was actually on par with the first SPIDER-MAN movie, and then there's BLADE RUNNER, so there's a lot to be said for theatrical cuts versus Director's Cuts...

Date: 2009-02-20 04:23 am (UTC)I....don't....believe....yoouuuuu.
Did they replace the lead actors? Did they give us Elektra for real?
I saw Daredevil the night before an ice storm that left us without power for just under two weeks. I felt it was God's punishment for monetarily supporting such a travesty.

Date: 2009-02-20 04:29 am (UTC)That said, there's a whole half-hour of extra footage with is essentially a LAW AND ORDER episode of Matt Murdock being an investigating lawyer, and it totally fleshes out his character and relationship to Elektra. It works, I swear.
Honestly, now I'm REALLY sad that we won't see DD: BORN AGAIN as a movie. Because if they could have made that leap that the SPIDER-MAN and X-MEN part twos did (and I will say that I think DD: DC is *slightly better* than X-MEN 1) it would have been epic. Sigh.

Date: 2009-02-20 05:02 am (UTC)The best thing would be if it had a whole extra hour of Jon Favreau as Foggy Nelson. He was the only thing about that movie that didn't make me want to cry. When I heard he was directing Iron Man, I did a little jig. Then I heard who they cast as Tony Stark and I think I put a hole in the ceiling.
I think for me to really, really be able to watch it, someone would have to dub a different name over 'Elektra' every time someone said it so I could pretend that was some other character.
Also, on the subject of movies, you may be entertained to read about my ordeal trying to see The Dark Knight in France this past summer. I left the US the week of its release and didn't get to see it until they released it in France a few weeks later. I hope my pain entertains you. XD

Date: 2009-02-20 05:19 am (UTC)I will do my best to shout "SYDNEY BRISTOW!" at the top of my lungs every time someone says "Elektra."
hahaha, "DONNEZ-MOI MON TICKET, MOTHER FUCKER." And yay, someone else who didn't like the Two-Face stuff! But then, we could go on for hours about that. At least, I could.

Date: 2009-02-21 12:52 am (UTC)I think hearing SYDNEY BRISTOW might be painful too, but not half as painful as seeing one of my childhood heroes(?) portrayed (poorly) by Jennifer Garner. Though admittedly she did what she could with the script she was given. I would have been happier if they had found a Greek actress, or at least one with the proper hair color.

Date: 2009-02-20 04:29 am (UTC)let's just say that sometimes they call it a director's "cut" because it hurts more...
(and i'm still not sure which Blade Runner I prefer. maybe we oughta call it a director's gouge.)

Date: 2009-02-20 05:03 am (UTC)I've still never seen Blade Runner. I realize this makes me less of a human being. It is an error I hope to correct, but I think part of me is waiting until I read the original story first.

Date: 2009-02-20 07:03 am (UTC)You've had sketches done by artists at Comic conventions-how much can they run in price, and it's only usually done in black and white (no color added) right?
no subject
Date: 2009-02-20 06:50 pm (UTC)Sketches can vary. Many will do 'em for free, although usually the free ones are just quick sketches, whereas others charge anywhere from $20-$70 for pencil sketches, while fully inked ones can be more like $70-150.

Date: 2009-02-20 07:31 pm (UTC)Thanks for the sketches info-if I ever do get to a comic convention someday, I have an idea for one I want done.
Have you read the first part of Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?

Date: 2009-02-20 07:50 pm (UTC)I have! I enjoyed it greatly, but am withholding full judgment until I see where the hell he's going with this. But already, there's more humanity and character depth in that one issue than in all of Morrison's run, so that's a plus.
