Who wants to see AGUIRRE, WRATH OF GOD on the big screen with me tomorrow at 9:00? Having seen it at AFI a couple years ago, I can assure you, this film is somehow even better on the big screen.

Just before that, there'll also be FITZCARRALDO (a film I like, but it's like a less awesome version of AGUIRRE, and the behind-the-scenes story infinitely more interesting) and the amazing POW story LITTLE DIETER NEEDS TO FLY, which Herzog himself adapted as RESCUE DAWN with Christian Bale.

C'mon, folks! 9:00 for AGUIRRE, if nothing else! Let's get grog at Piratz Tavern, and then watch Herzog!

Well, let me know ASAP. I dunno how long tickets will last. I'm gonna get mine in advance, but I'm gonna hold off until I hear back from anyone else who might be interested.

And dear lord... I can't read this now. I'm in a good writing flow and mood, it must not be ruined with the purpleness. I'm saving it for later, though. Methinks it must needs be seen.

Is Aguirre really at risk of being sold out? In this economy? And when Watchmen had such a disappointing opening weekend?

Oh heck, that's a whole long conversation is of itself! But it's a limited showing, just two screenings at AFI, so I dunno. Just playing it safe. We're gonna buy tickets there around 7:30ish, tragical_mirth and I, then hit up Piratz. I'll inquire at the box office how tickets are going and will let you know if it's sold out, or near to.

Also, it was pointed out to me by my favorite joyless bastard Devin at CHUD.com that WATCHMEN only had a disappointing opening weekend if you were expecting it to be, like, a record-breaking blockbuster. He puts it all in perspective rather nicely here:

Also, I wasn't expecting Watchmen to be record-breaking, just comparable to other big comic book movies. Granted, I haven't actually compared them; I've just heard people's assessments of it. So that's my research for ya.
