Outtakes from Ricky Gervais' interview with Elmo:

What really blows me away is how the Elmo actor is genuinely cracking up, but he never breaks character. Even to the point of having the puppet laugh into his hands.

Man, has anybody ever not had a great time with the muppets? You always seem to get the impression that these celebrities and personalities are having a blast.

That's too cute. I will always have a soft spot for the muppets. 'Get off Elmo. You're not supposed to touch Elmo!'

Okay, that's the first time I've seen Elmo in anything where I actually thought he was funny. Possibly the addition of Mr. Gervais to the mix is what did it. But yes, kudos on the puppet guy for not breaking character, that's got to be tough sometimes.

If I hadn't already seen every episode, I'd think that was from Extras. I can't believe that's real. Gervais is such a crack monkey.

The video is hosted by the Associated Press, so I think it is real, it's just the outtakes. Here's what it says on the YouTube page:

"Add Ricky Gervais to the set of 'Sesame Street' and you come up with outrageous comedy. Check out outtakes from his interview with Muppet Elmo. The full episode airs this November when 'Street' opens with its 40th anniversary. (March 11)"

See you sooooooon! I'll be getting there around 2:30 anyway so I can get lunch. Keep me posted!

Though it's not letting me watch this for some reason at the moment, rest assured that I shall.

Oh, and I still have a movie to show you!

That's actually one of the coolest things about the muppets. It is extremely rare for a muppeteer to break character. Even the outtakes are in character. Kevin Clash (the guy behind [or under, if you prefer] Elmo) worked under Henson himself, so, yeah. Henson and Frank Oz were particularly hilarious cutting up.
