Remember back when I tried to start up a meme for who would be on your asskicking super-team, if you could assemble a group of anybody, fictional or real? Your ultimate dream team, ready to have quests in anywhere from Middle-Earth to the Uncharted Territories.
I still stand behind mine, if only so I could have Bill the Butcher duel (and then have a one-night-stand) with Kitty Pryde, show Oracle helping Bub the Zombie and Johnny Go disarm a bomb, and depict Doc Holiday eating nachos with Werner Herzog. They'd be good times, I tell you.
Well, it appears comic artist Sean Murphy has similar dreams, and has drawn up his own super-team of dream characters. Oh holy hell, it is a geeksplosion of dorktastic nerdery, in the very best way possible.

I'm behind every single choice here except for Wolverine and Gambit, just because the former is so overused and the latter is Gambit. But the inclusion of Henry Rollins and the Gray Motherfuckin' Ghost easily makes up for it.
Now if I could just him to draw up my super-team of Hal Jordan, Bill the Butcher, Kitty Pryde, Doc Holiday, Oracle, Harvey Dent, Maxwell Lord, Bub the Zombie, and Johnny Go, we'll be golden. But it's just as well, because the universe would clearly implode from the awesome.

Date: 2009-03-19 08:11 pm (UTC)(BTW: Zot!, the animatronic Abraham Lincoln from the Hall of Presidents animated by Lincoln's ghost, Hellboy, the pirate queen Cheng I Sao, Elric, Doc Holliday (OK, I'll give you that one,) Spider Jerusalem, Rex the Wonder Dog, Zhong Kui the Ghost Queller, and Godzilla.)

Date: 2009-03-19 08:23 pm (UTC)But with Rex the Wonder Dog, I fear the rest of the team becomes irrelevant.

Date: 2009-03-20 05:39 pm (UTC)My Super Superteam:
Date: 2009-03-19 08:33 pm (UTC)1. Gandalf the White (from the book). Brings to the team Magic, Lore and great leadership.
2. Fingolfin (an early king of the elves in ME, so bad-assed that, even though he died, he permanently hurt Melkor). Brings massive melee prowess, toughness, tactical genius and more magic and magic resistance.
3. Power Girl (as opposed to superman. We should include powerful chicks). Brings to the team air support, near invulnerability, massive toughness, massive strength and incredibly distracting hotness.
4. Indiana Jones: Brings to the team more lore knowledge, ability to think outside of the box or act with no plan, tactical ability, sneakiness, snark, endurance, cool and a bullwhip.
5. The Huntress (as opposed to Green Arrow) Brings stealth, long range attach, Archery coolness, sneakiness, hotness.
6. The Gray Mouser: brings super sneakiness, the ability to sniff out a trick, the ability to pull the best tricks himself, some magic, great skill in a melee, and the ability to stab a bad guy in the back when no one else knows.
7. The Shadow: brings a blend of magic and psychic ability, a pair of gorgeous pistols, knowledge about the roots of evil in humanity, sneakiness, stealth, brawling capability and the ability to cloud men's minds.
8. Psylocke: Brings powerful psychic ability, impressive assassin skills, phenomenal melee fighting ablilty and the ability to sniff out a rat.
9. Tony Stark/Iron Man: Brings technological genius, massive resources, some tactical and strategic genius, and a bad-assed Iron Man suit that adds toughness, power, air support and a heavy punch.
10. Obi-Wan Kenobi (from Revenge of the Sith): Brings a connection to the nature of the universe (the Force) which gives a blend of Magic, Psychic, possibly unbeatable melee and piloting ability, the ability to handle high technology and a lightsaber.

Date: 2009-03-19 08:55 pm (UTC)As far as a super team, I'd be content with your Bill the Butcher hacking the shit out of Gambit with a cleaver à la movie!Rorschach.
But in this team, Albert Einstein with the zombie-hacking cricket bat takes the prize.
ETA: It occurs to me that I did this a while back, but I can't find the post. I seem to remember Albus Dumbledore, Nicola Tesla, Emma Goldman, Marie Laveau, and Harry Houdini having starring roles...

Date: 2009-03-21 06:06 am (UTC)Here I thought Einstein had a cricket bat, but the consensus is that it's some SquareSoft sword. I still like the idea of him chasing zombies with a cricket bat more, though.

Date: 2009-03-21 05:44 pm (UTC)So, um, back when I first got this idea, I actually wrote up some drabbles of this super-team (I'm revisiting them now, and dear lord I wish I could draw to bring some of these to life), and I did write the entire Bill/Bitty fight. Everyone takes bets, and pretty much everyone votes for Kitty, just because they're all anxious to see Bill get his (and as Max Lord put it, "Always go for the kid with the powers. It’s the same principle of never betting on the white guy."). But for this fight, she agrees, "no powers." She wants to trounce him good and proper, as samurai (or is it ninja training she has?) versus street fighter.
God, I'm so glad I can't draw. I'd spend hours working on this, to the delight of about three people.

Date: 2009-03-19 11:42 pm (UTC)Let's see, just going off the top of my head: Hellboy, The Shade, Deadshot, Miyamoto Musashi, Gesicht, Sailor Jupiter and Sailor Saturn (the latter might be too much though), Gene Hunt, Rogue (with Carol Danvers' powers), and Michael Westen.

Date: 2009-03-20 12:08 am (UTC)Actually, I can't recall the last time I've seen your art. Have you any recent samples? Because if you're offering, mayhaps I could request something else that I've had on my mind recently...

Date: 2009-03-20 12:52 am (UTC)Not that I'd know such things.
*cough*
[/nerd]
But seriously, Henry Fucking Rollins next to the Grey Ghost with Madmartigan and Einstein wielding a massive anime sword? The only problem I have is Logan riding bitch.

Date: 2009-03-20 05:40 am (UTC)Honestly, that line-up is just too magnificent to be comprehended. How our heads haven't exploded by now is beyond me.

Date: 2009-03-20 01:27 am (UTC)But! I don't know if has to do with the design classes that I've been taking this semester, or that I've been trying to grapple with a brush and ink recently, or it's the comics I've been readin', or that I've been reading some interesting drawing books, or that my sleeping schedule has been so profoundly fucked up, but for some reason I have been feeling more motivated to push against the walls of those comfort zones as of late.
...which is all my embarrassingly overshare-ingly way of saying that I'm afraid I don't have any thing substantial as far as samples are concerned right now, but if you want to bounce a couple of ideas my way and are willing to lower your expectations I can certainly give it my best shot.
Edit: that was meant as reply to your comment above, but I don't know why it wound up here. Huh.

I'm leaning towards the latter, as it'd really make this Harvey my own, and it'd also emphasize the RFK connections I've felt with the character.

Date: 2009-03-22 02:55 pm (UTC)Ha, actually, I just remembered I also had Doctors Strange and Octopus on there as well, so it went to eleven! Well, ten, if you count Oracle as essentially just the M of their team. I just love too many characters!
