Back from Montreal
Jun. 24th, 2009 03:31 amI'm more than a little disappointed that the events depicted in the top strip didn't happen.

The strip on the bottom has nothing to do with anything, it's just included in the image for the enjoyment of all. A bit of Kate Beaton makes everything better.
I have returned from Montreal (and their Fringe Festival) with a sore throat, speeding ticket (from upstate New York), and a bruised ego. But--like the showtune goes--alive! But alive! But al-iiiiiiive!!!
Major love and thanks to the Montreal Chapter of John Hefner's GIRLFRIENDS IN CANADA:
bagelofdeath*,
beckara,
bimmin,
viizou, and newly-acquired ladyfriend
terheyt. ;)
But most of all, extra super special love and thanks to the great, the wonderful, the mighty
little_dinosaur, who was able to house me for two weeks at her family's place, for which I'm still incredibly grateful and humbled.
Right! My To-Do list, much of which will be accomplished in hermitage at the Rehoboth Beach house:
1.) Plot out revisions for HEFNER MONOLOGUES in preparation for the madness that will be Winnipeg Fringe
2.) Not freak out and worry about Winnipeg Fringe
3.) Finally get working on the major overhaul revisions of the second half of DENT
4.) Waffle as to whether or not to buy the new iPhone
5.) Totally buy the new iPhone holy crap I'm such a tool
6.) Not die from the Fringe-stress-induced plague under which I'm now suffering
7.) Possibly write about my Montreal Fringe experience, if I can do it without angsting too much and manage to maintain perspective and humor OH GOD WHY WHY
8.) Oh fuck get on that Canadian tax bullshit that they sprung on me at the last minute.
And of course, there's the always-applicable task Number 9, Number 9, Number 9: "sleep." Which I shall attempt to get to right now. HA HA YEAH RIGHT.
Oh, and also hang out with people and have a social life. Maybe.
*I hope you realize, dear lady, that leaving today was not an entirely easy decision. You made it all exceedingly tempting. We need to figure out some way to logistically hang out and make up for the misspent time in Montreal. I'm not sure I'm up for the Montreal drive again, but hey, if you ever wanna make a long weekend of NYC or something, that might be worth considering...

Date: 2009-06-24 04:30 pm (UTC)I'd like to go alone to the Beach House for a few days to decompress this week, especially before it gets rented out to somebody else next Thursday, so... like, tomorrow through Saturday at the latest? Otherwise, it'll have to be a week after that at least.
Which version did you get? A review I read said the Wii version was the best (or at least, the format worked better for the story and the controls are perfectly suited for 'busting).
BUY THE iPHONE
Date: 2009-06-24 12:59 pm (UTC)I might be heading to New York in August, but I don't know. I think the family is planning a trip because we're so awesome, but if the parents decide it's during WorldCon or Fan Expo, then I will not be joining them. I would tell you to come to Fan Expo, but that would be an even longer drive. On the plus side, sometime before June 2nd of next year, Rebecca and I are OBLIGATED to fly somewhere. So we figure we'll be going to SOME Con with that, so we'll see if we can plan.
On plus side, HEY HEY my bodysuit was finished last night! And the boots will be almost done by Thursday evening. IT IS ALL COMING TOGETHER. Which is probably why I've been feeling like a fatty lately. It's so intimidating.
Anyway anyway, it's ALWAYS good to see you and if you should ever come back for Fringe (YES I SAID IT) or Just For Laughs, then there's gotta be some promotional gameplan I can help with now that I've seen the show.
Also, it's a day off today,a s you know, so I might shave down Harvey's hair if I have a minute. I have a feeling that's going to be the most annoying aspect of this figure.

Date: 2009-06-24 04:47 pm (UTC)Ehh, August will be tough for me anyway. I'll have henchgirl/writing partner
Whooooooooo wants a bus trip to Winnipeg in a couple weeks???
For future reference (and assuming I'm even in the area), Baltimore Comic Con is an hour away from me, and is relatively major. At least, major enough that DC and Marvel do majorish announcements there that get carried off on the comic news sites. And Robert Kirkman sometimes picks a fight with Bendis (and wins!).

I dunno if I'll be back in time next year (I'm considering spending a month or so in San Francisco, training at a renowned school for stand-up comedy), but eh, we'll see!
OH AWESOME!!! Yay! Cannot wait to see the final pics!!! (Fatty? Girl, please)
Thank you! Indeed, it's ALWAYS good to see you too! Don't worry, I haven't been scared off of Montreal just yet! If anything, the experience there further inspired and galvanized plans for a new show that I've been thinking about for the past month, one which I think the Montrealers will respond to better.
My current theory as to why so many people weren't attracted to my show in the first place--much less responded to it at all--is because Montreal doesn't quite have the culture of arms-flailing neurotic introspection that, say, NYC does!
Yeah, I imagined the hair would be the hardest part! But still, yay day off! I'll be around a bit online, so hey, if you wanna do an e-party, I'm down with it! We can lounge around via long-distance!

Date: 2009-06-24 02:47 pm (UTC)I'm sure you're tired of my crack by now. But seriously, I don't plan this stuff. It just happens, and I'm there and... I have to spread the WTF around.
Also I am really, really, really encouraging you to have a social life. Srs. Really a very lot, because I've missed you awfully.

Date: 2009-06-24 04:32 pm (UTC)Nah, by all means, crack away! Just don't worry if I seem frazzled or distracted, because I probably am. I'm that a lot these days! :)
Yes! Once I figure out what my BMore plans are in the next couple of days, I will drop you a line and see if we can't enjoy a nice spot of tea or something someplace and catch up!

Date: 2009-06-24 04:36 pm (UTC):D Well let me know. We can work out something in walking distance, I think.

Date: 2009-06-24 04:22 pm (UTC)The reason is because 1.) I don't have a new show, and 2.) if Winnipeg goes well, it'll be a total money-maker for me. If it goes well, I may have to alternate Festivals between my home town with my base support and friends and a festival where I actually make money!

Yes, but a tool with a portable video camera, GPS system, voice dictation device, e-mail capabilities, AND Pandora radio! I'll be able to drunkly Facebook-twitter you while ON THE ROAD.

Date: 2009-06-24 07:32 pm (UTC)Shoot me an e-mail sometime, let me know how the rest of your trip went. Was the show received well?

Date: 2009-06-25 07:15 am (UTC)And you too, m'dear! Always wonderful to put a face to a screenname, especially when it's a lovely face to boot!
So! For examples of DOOM being awesome, I bring you excerpts from DR. STRANGE & DR. DOOM: TRIUMPH AND TORMENT:
Part 1: http://asylums.insanejournal.com/scans_daily/398951.html
Part 2: http://asylums.insanejournal.com/scans_daily/404254.html
And then there's this wonderful short story: http://asylums.insanejournal.com/scans_daily/405710.html
And for more DOOM excellence, I invite you to peruse the WEEK 'O DOOM collection from scans_daily: http://asylums.insanejournal.com/scans_daily/tag/series:+week+of+doom
I especially recommend any scans from DOOM 2099, especially those written by Warren Ellis. All this should give you a fine intro to the wonder and glory that is Victor Von DOOM.

Date: 2009-06-25 01:57 pm (UTC)... It's a sign that I've been reading too much manga: I started skimming over the first extract right-to-left.
Won't it seem a little weird if I know details about Dr. Doom and little else of anything concerning US comics? Well, I guess you have to start somewhere - and this looks like a fun place to do that.
