Out of curiosity (genuine curiosity, I'm not just being snarky!), would you go the other way, too? I mean, would you make it a point to buy work by someone who you know has gone on the record as being feminist/womanist, against racism, etc - or someone who is a minority in a privilege-dominated field, like a woman and/or person of colour in comics - even if you felt that their previous work had been sub-par?
I find it troublesome and difficult to separate my own sense of ethics and my personal politics from the stuff I consume. That said, maybe the penalty for paying money for stuff by Peter David should be that you have to buy a comic by an independent "minority-in-the-field" artist like Julie Doucet, for karmic balance, or something. Or that you have to make a donation to help out John Ostrander.
