preparing for the great Scans_Daily migration

I got a Dreamwidth account for the express purpose of following the upcoming Scans_Daily 3.0. I remain cautiously optimistic. On one hand, yay for a new permanent home! On the other hand, I've been enjoying reading S_D less and less over the past few weeks.

Certain wanky parties are making every other post a frustrating experience, tipping what was once a grand community closer to what I'd expect to see on the Newsarama or DC Comics message boards. Despite the best efforts of many, S_D 2.0 never quite felt right--it's just never been the same since 1.0 closed, dang it!--so here's hoping the new DW version will finally return the community to its former awesomeness and beyond.

In the meantime, I actually feel hesitant to post anything new for fear of inciting wank, even though I'm rather excited about recent acquisitions like that old JLA story where Two-Face teams up with the League to fight aliens inhabiting statues of Ben Franklin, Julius Caesar, and Napoleon. God, I'm starting to love the Silver Age more and more as the years go by.

Well, one particular trollish poster has already said he won't be making the move to scans_daily 3.0, so...maybe things will improve marginally?

What, really? As in the one we've discussed recently? If so, then hell yes, things are already starting to look up!

I dig the new layout on DW. It looks so much homier and welcoming than the drab IJ layout.

Why are you missing the icons? Can't you upload icons, or are you referring to some limit we can have?

A limit thing. Dreamwidth allows you to upload 15 icons total...I have 97 icons at the current scans_daily. I had to cull them back, and it makes me a little sad.

On the one hand, wank sucks. On the other hand, I'm actually kind of encouraged by the level of discourse that's happened re: issues of marginalization at S_D, even if some (or a lot) of it has been poorly handled. I'd be hesitant to call that wank, even if I'd rather stay out of the arguing. I seriously do enough of that in my real life.

ON THE OTHER OTHER HAND, I don't know the specifics of what you are talking about. So meh.

Oh, I've actually been rather into that kind of discourse. I've found all that quite interesting, and I think it deserves to be talked about. That's not what I was referring to when I mentioned wankery. I meant the typical fan-wankery from one member in particular which reminded me too much of the kind of stuff one would see at Newsarama.com and the like.
