I can actually find someone to have an epic discussion about adapting THE BROTHERS KARAMAZOV with Batman characters, starting with the Robins onward.

I originally came up with the idea for THE BROTHERS ROBIN with [livejournal.com profile] surrealname back in college, even though he'd never actually read the book. Since then, I've been dying to find a Bat-fan who has! I just thank god I don't have the energy to actually write the fanfic, because let me tell you, it's now more tempting than ever!

Before you do, I should ask: who did the translation? Because that can make all the difference! I would highly recommend avoiding the traditional Constance Garrett translation if you can help it, because I found that one WAY drier and more like what one would expect from a RUSSIAN NOVEL than the newer translations.

It's definitely a huge-ass book, partially because it was originally serialized and, like Dickens, I think Dostoevsky got paid by the word. But while it's wordy as hell, I personally found it entirely engrossing. It's my favorite book of all time.

It's translated by Pevear and Volokhonsky.
