A couple years back, someone found over an hour of lost footage from Fritz Lang's METROPOLIS, and they're finally premiering the new cut in Berlin, streaming online. Today. Right now.

Here's the direct link if the (French subtitled) video doesn't load or show up: http://j.mp/9SS92S

The dialogue won't be in English, but it's a silent film, so how hard can it be to follow?

EDIT: It *still* hasn't officially started. They're still doing interviews and whatnot. Oh my god, I'm so bored and confused. Hell with this, I'll probably just wait for the new DVD, or maybe when it hits the AFI Silver.

Love that movie. Still have the soundtrack on tape- the one with Queen and *quick Google because I want to say Vangelis but that's wrong* Giorgio Moroder on it.

I was tempted to go to the Berlin Fest, but I have this pesky job that keeps a leaky roof over my head and is helping to pay for my trip to Berlin in August, so... *sigh*

Wait, what? Queen? I know they used footage for the video of "Radio Ga Ga," but there was a Queen-employed METROPOLIS soundtrack? Because me wantee!

Actually, has there ever been a thing with people doing fan-soundtracks for silent movies? Because there so should be.

Yes. Yes indeed there is. People actually release DVD versions of the public domain stuff.

(Which is why it's so hard to find a decent DVD version of Nosferatu because there are so many truly shitty fan-made versions floating around out there that it's hard to tell.)

No wait, I misspoke- only Freddie Mercury appeared on the soundtrack.

Gawd, I love this thing: http://www.amazon.com/Metropolis-Original-Motion-Picture-Soundtrack/dp/B00000260Q Whoever put it together was obviously a fan of the movie and of music in general. Loverboy AND Pat Benatar AND Adam Ant AND- I can't even finish that thought. The awesomeness is just too overwhelming.

And yes, I agree. That would be VERY cool. Is it weird that the first movie I thought of was "Birth of a Nation"? I'd include a lot of Skynrd, fo sho.
