I remember when they announced that there was indeed going to be the inevitable full-length version of MACHETE--the glorious first fake trailer for the little-appreciated awesomefest that was GRINDHOUSE--I worried that it wouldn't work. And indeed, it still might not hold up for an hour and a half.
But this new real trailer for the actual film (click on the link, scroll down) is every bit as good as the fake one did. Sure, I miss the "Where are my wife and daughter?!" moment. But the new one has Michelle Rodriguez* being awesome and tons of delightful surprises that I dare not spoil for you.
Furthermore, the Arizona bullshit has actually made this awesomeness somewhat topical, like any good exploitation film should be. Like PLANET TERROR, it looks like Robert Rodriguez has made a film by someone who's only ever heard about grindhouse films, as opposed to a more genuine article like Tarantino's criminally-unloved-by-most DEATH PROOF.
FurtherMOREmore, it's awesome that they were able to get back most of the same actors from the original trailer. Especially Jeff Fahey, who... who...

Hopefully this'll be good, and will come equipped with a new fake trailer of its own. Same goes for when Eli Roth finally makes THANKSGIVING. Even though the mass public had no idea what to do with GRINDHOUSE, it's great to see that the filmmakers are carrying on out of what seem to be sheer love and shoe-string budgets.
*Can I please please please do a GOTHAM CENTRAL movie with Michelle Rodriguez as Montoya, Oliver Platt as Harvey Bullock, and Sam Elliot as Commissioner Gordon, oh can I, please say I can!
EDIT: While I actually have a GRINDHOUSE icon, this one seemed more appropriate. Oh, after I'm done with GOTHAM CENTRAL, can I do a sequel where Machete's enemies travel back through time to bring back the ultimate enemy of immigration, Bill the Butcher, to battle Machete? I'm going all Larfleeze here with my mad dream geek movies.
