Now. For those who don't know what WATCHMEN is, let me explain. Not only is it generally considered perhaps the greatest superhero story ever written (I maintain it's one of the best, but not THE best... a touch too cynical for my superheroic tastes), but it's also Terry Gilliam's greatest unrealized work. He'd been trying to fifteen years to make this movie, but bad scripts (like the one I posted here a while back) held him back.

Then, Aintitcoolnews.com reviewed David Hayter (X-Men, X2 screenwriter)'s script here: http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=13607 back in October 2002. It was a glowing review, as you can see, and it got us all excited about seeing it realized. There had been no further news about this movie, until today. Darren Aronfosky is directing WATCHMEN, the movie.

I have not yet seen Requiem for a Dream (I believe it's one of [livejournal.com profile] cavenessity's favorite movies, am I right?), and I need to see Pi again. RFAD has gotten a lot of shit for being a "drugs are bad, m'kay?" movie, but considering I *am* a "drugs are bad, m'kay" kind of guy, I'm sure I'd love it. ;)

Now, for dream casting: William Hurt for Doc Manhattan. Phillip Seymour Hoffman for Nite-Owl. Jennifer Connelly for Silk Spectre. Hell, Bruce Campbell for the Comedian. But for the big one, my man Rorschach, there are so many beautiful options: Willhem Dafoe, Steve Buscemi, David Caruso, all would do wonderfully. But Dave Gibbons, the WATCHMEN artist, already has his choice, and when I heard it and remembered the character, I knew, I KNEW, there could be only one: William H. Macy.

God, I hope this movie happens. God, I hope it works.

And to all those out there who haven't yet read WATCHMEN, take Handy's advice: READ A BOOK!

Very cool!

YES. You are required to see Requiem for a Dream. There will be a quiz.

And I really don't think it's necessarily only a "drugs are bad" movie. It's about addiction, period.

William H. Macy is the only man who could play Rorschach

Dammit! There is absolutely nothing in this post for me to disagree with, or even poke fun at!
