I refuse to be caught sneaking into Cal Poly's food processing building at 3am. ...Mostly because I have a feeling I'd lock myself inside the walk-in freezer while distracted by all of the tasty, tasty cow. :9
You think that's bad, at least there is only the width of the continent between you and that tasty, tasty burgery goodness. There's the whole bloody Pacific between them and me! I haven't had In-n-out since.. hmm. January 2007, I think.
Equally amazing food in general, sure. Even great burgers, of a sort. But equally amazing proper fast-food style burgers that can actually satisfy my 'burger' craving? No. All the burgers here that are actually good are too fancy and too different to satisfy that craving properly.
I dunno, the next time I get to visit L.A., it'll be hard to resist just eating at the Apple Pan for every meal, day and night. God, I would KILL for a hickory burger and banana cream pie...
Never even seen a Smashburger, but I will be certain to keep an eye out for it.
The appeal of In-N-Out, aside from the fresh ingredients (rather more healthy to eat than your average large burger at McDonald's, but what isn't?) is the thousand island style "spread." Yum. The fries are perfectly cooked too.
Considering Sonic and Chic-Fil-A are literally tn trillion times better than whatever bullshit In-N-Out throws out and there are tons near the Eastern U.S. I think we're pretty set up.
I've never eaten as Sonic, and while I've wanted to on occasion, Henchgirl reminds me that a friend of hers once found a human tooth in a burger from Sonic. That's enough to make me drive on.
Ckic-Fil-A is fucking amazing, but I cannot in good conscience eat there anymore. I've come very, very close to weakening, but those amazing chicken sammitches just ain't worth the guilt.
Meanwhile, In-N-Out is not only fucking delicious, but by all accounts they're incredibly ethical and, while religiously-based, have not been exposed for supporting anti-gay groups, to the best of my knowledge. Workers at In-N-Out tend to actually look HAPPY to be working there, because they're treated pretty damn well. And again, DELICIOUS.
Avoiding Chik-fil-a has always worked for me. I never thought they were all that good in the first place.
I did like the fact that the last one I was at, the staff was very polite and efficient. I really, really want that in a fast food restaurant. But smiling at me while fucking my friends up the ass doesn't do it for me.
