Hal Jordan is returning as Green Lantern this October. We won, bitches!

And hey, all you Jordan haters out there: if you don't like it... get over it.
I've been waiting ten years to say that ;)

I tell you what, there are some angry fans and a green divided camp. I like Kyle and I also like what I know of Hal. In my opinion they shouldn't have done what they did to Hal to begin with and the fact that they are bringing him back just proves it doesn't it? They messed up and they know it. I wish the writers in the industry would be a bit more responsible when they deconstruct an established character or kill somone off so that it is well thought out, good storytelling and then the character would actually stay dead. But seeing how they weren't responsible with Hal, I'm glad he's coming back. *grin*

I agree completely.

The weirdest thing is, though, I got interested in Hal once he was already Parallax. My very first intro to GL was the GL/Silver Surfer crossover. I was so intrigued by this villain who wasn't really a bad guy, just a hero who fell from grace. Then, not long after Final Night, I started to read more and more old Hal stuff, until, crap, I realized I liked his GL even better! While I opposed Ron Marz and Kevin Dooley's direction with Hal, I never would have gotten interested in him if it weren't for them. Go figure, huh?

Lots of people are complaining about this, saying it's a step backwards. Yet no one complains about everyone reversing the Spider-Man clone saga or the "fogies" in the JSA, do they? GL is the comics' equivalent of the abortion debate, with two vehemently passionate sides.

And while Marz's Kyle only bugged me, Morrison and Winnick got me to warm to the character as more than just a Image-era Peter Parker-knockoff. Especially with the new costume. I don't know about you, but I hated the old Kyle costume. Everything silly about mid-90's style with a crab mask. At least in Jim Lee's costume he *looks* like a GL.

Now everyone who reads comic books knows that the Kirby Silver Surfer is the only TRUE Silver Surfer, now am I right or wrong?

The real question is, who's going to be writing him? I've always thought it was a lot less about the characters than about the writing (even if some previous writers have painted you so far into a corner that no writer can work it out).

Geoff Johns will be writing him, and there are few who are better choices that him. Johns has a strong, sincere reverence to the Silver and Golden Ages of comics, and his superhero books are some of the best on the market simply because they resist the cynicism and nihilism of post 1980's comics. He was the writer who took the JSA, the team made up of the oldest DC superheroes (the old GL, Flash, Wildcat, all WWII era characters) and made it a top-selling book, and he's also the writer of Flash.

You bring up a good point, though, and a lot of fans are angry about Hal coming back as Green Lantern, since in their eyes it's like a huge step backward. Johns has been doing his best to acknowledge these complaints and insists that the story he's crafted actually IS a step forward. I'll be damn interested to see how he pulls it off.
