Now, I'd think/hope by now pretty much everyone here knows my stand on pot. It probably shouldn't surprise you that my mother feels pretty much the same way. Maybe it's for that reason that she was the perfect person to take to the passes-only sneak preview of "Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle," since I think we were the only people in the theater who weren't at least friendly with the chronic.

And as such... this movie was pretty fucking funny. In fact, it was so funny, my mother was complaining all the way home that her sides were hurting from laughter. Stupid in all the right places, clever in plenty where it really it counted, I was actually surprised by how good the director's follow-up to "Dude, Where's My Car?" actually was.

Also, it should be noted that it was actually really refreshing to see two Asian protagonists in a movie. I never really thought it'd make that big of a difference to diversify film and TV before, but until this film I don't think I ever really noticed just how white-boy our culture is. More fool boy me. (Although, I still find it odd that "Sixteen Candles" should be Harold's favorite movie, considering it has one of the most infamous/beloved Asian stereotypes ever, Long Duk Dong... I would have thought they'd address that in the movie, but never did.)

So yes. A good, stupid, fun time, as well as a fitting tribute to the wonder and glory that is White Castle. Would there was one around here right now.

Side-note: my mother and I pondering what it would be like if we smoked pot. I mean, we glaze out flipping channels for hours, go on long, sometimes meandering road trips, are frequently hungry for snack foods, and often laugh at even inane things. I don't think we'd even leave the house. Or the seventh seal would be opened.

Our friend spacechild is undergoing major changes in his life, but has not made any announcements for the simple fear that he would be flooded with concerned calls and e-mails. As such, he has basically decided the best way to do what he needs to do is to slip out quietly, without announcement. If we ever see/hear from him again (and this is assuming he takes these plans seriously, as he very much does, from what I could tell), it won't be for at least a year.

I cannot go into the extent of this journey, mainly since I almost certainly don't even know the half of it, but I think it's safe to say it's one seriously, deeply spiritual in nature. If/when he returns, I'm sure we'll have lots of fascinating stories to hear, because he is going to undergo some serious tests in the coming months. I hope we get to hear them.
