While I love Scorcese, I haven't exactly been getting hyped up for THE AVIATOR, his biopic of pre-nutso Howard Hughes starring Leo DiCaprio. But in this film that spans 30 years, Scorcese (who, like Tarantino, well understands the importance of music in films, Mean Streets and Goodfellas are true testaments to that one... I defy you to listen to "Layla" the same way again), is going to be employing a rather interesting musical framing device with three certain musicans appearing as nightclub and longue singers at different points of the film.

For the 1920's, it'll be Rufus Wainwright. For the 1930's, it'll be Loudon Wainwright III. For the 1940's, Martha Wainwright.

I'm the only person I know who actually listens to and loves all three Wainwrights, so I'm geekgasming about this. I long for the day I finally hear Daddy and Son duet, after all the years of Loudon's neglect towards Rufus. Maybe they will in Rufus' next album, WANT TWO.

Oh, and for those who don't know the wonder and beauty of Loudon Wainwright's music, you might remember him as the mayor of the town of Specter in BIG FISH.

mmm. Rufus Wainwright. I see you've acquired the Sonnet CD (or kazaa'd its 2nd best track, anyway). I thought you weren't fond of the sonnets?

I ares-ed it (which is the kazaa that works with my school's firewall), but after downloading the only two tracks availible (Rufus' and Alan Rickman's "My Mistress' eyes", which I'm assuming is your number 1 track, am I correct?) I am sorely tempted to buy the cd.

I wasn't a fan of the sonnets until recently, when I became rather more appreciative of the sonnets' themes, if you know what I mean. If nothing else, having Rufus put it to song is rather different than just reading it, yes? And hell, I MUST MUST MUST hear David Warner's track on the CD. Is he as dreamy as I imagine?
