Once again, it seems a letter of mine ranting about my displeasure at something the magazine has done is going to be published! Two weeks ago, EW put out their "forecast 2005" issue spotlighting the big movies to be coming out, and while obvious stuff like BATMAN BEGINS, BEWITCHED, and KINGDOM OF HEAVEN got noted, some with full-page articles, there was no mention, not even a footnote, on SIN CITY!
What the fuck, right? I mean, you got a movie with a cast and crew like that, not to mention a truly different visual style for a film, and it doesn't even merit a "oh, by the way, there's this little movie coming out called SIN CITY coming out." Even that god-awful-looking PINK PANTHER remake got a mention!! So like the good little film/comic snob that I am, I wrote in a letter and they just sent back an e-mail asking for permission to print! Huzzah! Now my word of indignation will run in edited format to the world!
The last time EW prinited a letter it was three years ago when their cover hailed SCREAM the "greatest slasher movie of all time." Dude, when you put that smirking post-modern pretty-face-fest over the works of Craven, Carpenter, and Alfred Motherfuckin' Hitchcock, oh no, it's on.
So far I've had letters in TIME, EW, BATMAN, THE SPECTRE, and BATMAN: THE LONG HALOWEEN. I feel kind of like Grandpa Simpson with my indignant letters. Well *someone* needs to set these mixed-up kids straight, ding dang it!
