So for those of you who don't know, one of the things this college is famous for is the Sophie Kerr prize. Simply put, it's awarded to one graduating senior based on a portfolio of their creative writing. The submissions can include short stories, novellas, play scripts, essays, etc. The prize itself? Roughly around $60,000. The due date for the portfolio? Today at 2:00. Little less than 12 hours from now.

My portfolio includes an excerpt from my novel, an essay on the life of Gordon Craig, two play excerpts, and four short stories. I'm hard at work on the introduction right now (y'know, except for the whole "writing this LJ entry" part). I started to think about what title I wanted to include on it, since "Creative writing portfolio" is lame, as the cool kids (well, just Misty) would say. And then I remembered a comment Dave made in my LJ back in the day, and even though it was inspired by Kids in the Hall it was still one the greatest things he's ever said:

"Tell me John, of the place known as vegas, and the time when you were known not has heffy, but by another more colorful moniker, that of Johnny Go, and the times you spent with Old Blue Eyes, Dino and Sammy as you mastered ceremonies in that magical town long, long ago."

Someday, I should like to chronicle those adventures. They would fit right in with the road trip with Bub the Zombie. In the meantime, I now have a title for my portfolio. The Songs of Johnny Go.

Look out ol' Heffie is back.

Good luck!!!

Oh...and I (finally) saw Closer Saturday night and realized that yes, you probably did an amazing job in Clive's place (I can't really see you as the whiny spineless seducer - that's more of a Chris Michaels role) and I wish I could have made it down to WAC to see your performance. Which scene did you do?

Chris, ouch. Although I bet there are many people here who think I'd make a perfect Dan. Thanks, though! Oh, and we did the "Fuck off and die, you fucked-up slag" scene. I trust you remember that one.

Oh yes...that was a very intense scene. I'm so glad I wasn't watching it with my mom (talk about uncomfortable). I was practically cheering for Clive.

Me too! I know he was a bastard, but they all were and I just felt for him so much. Glad to know I wasn't the only one.

Mike and I were in the lab all night last night, working on our portfolios. I was there until 5am revising, adding, editing it all...Mike was cool enough to turn it in for me before noon so I was actually able to some sleep.

And now, we wait. Good luck, Heffie.

Yeah...forgot something...Are you going to post any of your portfolio or novel on LJ? I'd like to read it.

I was thinking about it. I dunno, I'm very self-conscious when it comes to my writing. Put my on stage and I'm fearless, but get me in front of a crowd to read my own work and my heart's pounding.
