Took Katya (formerly known as "The Russian Girl") out to see UNLEASHED tonight, and a fine time was had by both. She's a neat person, lovely and smart and quite attractive to boot, but the thick accent is gonna take me awhile to get used to. That, and I really hafta try to speak more slowly and clearly and less Heffie mumblings.
It was weird though. This was my first date since high school, and I'd forgotten what it's like to date someone you won't see the next day when you go to lunch. I'd also forgotten what it's like to hang out with a girl who isn't A.) strictly and clearly a friend, whether you want her to be or not, or B.) someone who hasn't already made her attraction to me very clear. As such, I went right back to my old ways. You know, being polite, keeping my hands to myself, not trying to make any flirty movements unless one or two have already been deployed by her first, which they were not (from what I could tell). We didn't have time to go to dinner and really talk, which we will do later in the week or next, and when we parted ways we didn't kiss, hug, or even shake hands.
It was nice, don't get me wrong, but sparks weren't exactly flying. Which, of course, is just fine. Or as Ma would say, "it's not all about the nookie." And hell, I like the girl, but I'm not, like, hugely attracted to her. Which is normal, of course, but bear in mind I am recently coming off of two major loves and am certainly not over one, maybe not even both at the heart of things, so such "dating" feels a little awkward. Then again, one of the reasons I was so cautious, overly so perhaps, when flirting/dating Misty for those first six months was because I was still so hooked onto Tammy, and look how that ended up. I just gotta keep at it and not worry about things. Try to relax. Try to have fun and not be so heavy and issue-y. Try to get back to casualness. Date around, no pressure, just relax, be friends, have fun, and see which, if any, might be pursued for anything more. I'm working at it.
The movie was good, by the way. A solid piece of Luc Besson work, and a fine introduction to someone who may not be familiar with him. It doesn't have the cold brutality of LA FEMME NIKITA, or the pure fun ridiculousness of THE FIFTH ELEMENT, nor the touching blend of humor and heartbreak and love of his masterpiece, LEON: THE PROFESSIONAL, but it certainly carries echoes of the first and third. This was my first ever Jet Li movie, and now I suppose I will have to finally see ONCE UPON A TIME IN CHINA. I'll admit, the only reasons I saw this were for Besson and my main man, Bob Hoskins. He is the man, even when he's playing a total piece of scum like Bart. He consumes the scenery with Marmite, taking on the Gary Oldman role of the one-dimensional, over-the-top villain. Good flick, awesome Massive Attack soundtrack, gonna need to get that. And the girl with the braces was just too fucking cute. I just wanna nibble her over a very long period of time.
The even was capped off by me terrifying and confusing my fellow motorists by sings/screaming/growling along to "Rebel Yell." If only I had the same drive for it that I do for writing and acting, I'd love to sing in a rock band. Not only can I actually sing (though I lack and need training), but I've been told I have quite the punk scream.
