1.) Who wants to see LAND OF THE DEAD with me on Friday? I want to do a late show, 10-12:00 sometime, since I'll have Al-Anon until 9:30. But I must must must see this movie opening night. This film NEEDS our support! I'll go alone if I must, but I really don't want to. Come on, American horror movies have been wallowing in wimpy PG-13 dreck for too long. Time to see a real horror movie, with an actual *gasp!* story, depth, and political commentary! Heavens! A horror movie with a message? Characters who are actually layered and interesting? Perish the thought! C'mon, don't let me be the lone geek Friday night! Join me! And bring your delicious braiiiins!

2.) I spent all day today introducing a girl, a self-professed horror fanatic, to the entire George Romero zombie trilogy as well as "Return of the Living Dead." Interesting experience. For one thing, she basically hated "Night of the Living Dead," thought it was just terrible aside from a couple cool factors like the gore and the black guy as the lead. She half-liked half-hated "Dawn of the Dead," unable to take the cheezier elements and the really fake looking gore effects (it should be said at this point that she's a bit of a gore fetishist, which makes her love of the original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" somewhat baffling, as there's very, very little gore in that film). She far preferred "Day of the Dead" for the characters of Dr. Frankenstein and Bub (rightly so) and for the brilliant gore effects there too, but still thought it was kinda "meh," and still prefers "28 Days Later" to the entire trilogy.

Now, looking at this trilogy again, I suppose I can't blame her. I mean, hell, I look at the original "Star Wars" trilogy and say, "Wow, if I didn't love these movies so much, I'd hate them." So I can certainly understand her opinion and if I didn't have such a geek devotion to the original trilogy, heck, I might agree with her. I agree with her that Romero's films each got progressively better, which is an unpopular opinion from most who hold "Dawn" up as the masterpiece. On the other hand, I can't help but wince when someone looks at a Romero movie and says, "This is like what they did in '28 Days Later,' only not as good."

3.) I just found out that I do a damn good Alan Rickman impersonation. I don't know why I never tried to do it before, but Mom and I were watching "Chamber of Secrets" on TV (hey, it wasn't nearly as bad as you guys made me thought it was gonna be... still not a fan, but I'll see Azkaban, and that's only for Gary Oldman mind you) so I decided to make fun of Snape and apparently I'm damn good. Yes, ladies, that's right, my Mother thinks I can do a good Alan Rickman impersonation. Who's the dweeb now? On the other hand, man, I wish I knew this back when I was dating Misty. Would have come in real handy.

4.) Tomorrow's my second day with my personal trainer. I've been doing more DDR and just got the original Extreme, and am currenly shopping for the original Playstation ones on ebay. Right now, I'm feeling pretty ok. I'm sore, yes, but I'm finally starting to feel that energy that everyone keeps talking about. Dad still hasn't called, and lord knows what kind of shit he's gonna pull in the meantime, but I'm not even worrying about that. I've calmed down from Sunday. Even tired and sore, I'm feeling ok. This could be the start of something good. Well, except for this whole eating sensibly thing, I'm not so sure about that.

5.) That said, there's not a day, not an hour, that goes by where I don't miss her.

1. I was gonna wait for Netflix, but having said that I'm gaming Friday night, and having said that there's a 12:00 show at Muvico, and a 12:30am show at AMC Columbia 14 (by Columbia Mall). If the game ends early I might show up if I know where you're going.

2. No, she's wrong. Call me old and elitist, but she's wrong. 28 Days Later is a great story that was really well done, but the original trilogy is best viewed as a reflection of the times they were filmed. Have her watch the NotLD remake and see if she likes the story better in color and with modern effects.

3. Cool. In a wicked way that we must use on [livejournal.com profile] disc_sophist and [livejournal.com profile] tazira... :-)

4. Been playing the first DDR Max game as well, REALLY like Healing Vision, Rhythm Police, and Exotic Ethnic. I still haven't played DDR Extreme yet, but I've heard the interface and the songs kick ass, and In the Groove just got released so I'm tempted. Don't bother with anything earlier that the first DDR Max, they're just not that good. You can borrow them (Konamix and Disney included) sometime if you need to. I should probably have a DDR party one of these summer days.

5. Yeah, I know.

ps - Keep up with the al-anon metings. We're all behind you and want you to heal.

I can do midnight at muvico (this is the Egyptian, right? Arundel Mills of which you're thinking, right? I'm over Tammy so I can go there again, yay me!). I have no idea where Columbia is. But yeah, like I said, I'll be getting out of the meeting at 9:30 and it's at the Cathedral, right next to Ty and Roddy's, so that gives me plenty of time to zip to Arundel Mills.

I don't have your number, but you should have my e-mail, yes? We should totally do this!

Oh, and so far I've only done Max2 and I just got Extreme from my neighbor's today. I didn't like it much at first, but it's growing on me. And yes, please do let me borrow them, as my mother's been ebay shopping for them and if they're not any good, well, no point in that, right? And if you ever wanna party over here, she bought two of the hard metal pads.

Actually, you kinda know where the AMC 14 is. It's seriously right up the road from our new place. Mikey, Juls and I saw Batman Begins there Tuesday night. It's pretty splendid, and if you still have your WAC ID, you can get in for 7 bucks.

Call me. I'll need your cell number if you have one. If the game ends early like it has the last couple of weeks I'll meet you there. If I have to bail I'll let you know.
