thehefner: (Hello John...)
It's apparently official, according to comics scribe and Superman-movie-spy Mark Millar. Jim Caviezel is the next Superman.

Makes sense really. Superman is very much a Christ figure. I won't make an ass of myself by tying together all the comparisons (I'm sure we'll be seeing plenty of essays in the future on the matter), but it works. But more important is the question of how *good* is Caviezel for the role?

Personally, I really liked Passion, but that's a whole other matter and, let's face it, it wasn't really an actor's movie per se. No, the two Jim Caviezel movies that come to mind are "Count of Monte Cristo" and "Frequency." The former I only saw the second half of, but he was pretty good and intense there. The latter movie, however, I did see, and it's one of those touching, wonderful little-known flicks that are a little schmaltzy but very good. If that's any indication, I think Jim'll be a fine choice for Big Blue.Still, I kind of would have liked Tom Welling. I know, his acting skills are somewhat suspect, but in so many ways he just captures Clark, and I would have liked to have seen how he would have handled Superman.

Millar mentioned how we can now do so much more with the technology today that we didn't have 30 year ago to finally introduce some of the more... difficult aspects. Let's face it, Supes' rogues gallery is kind of weak. I mean, I love Bizarro and Mr. Mxyzptlk, but they're more comic relief than real threats. You have Lex Luthor, perhaps the greatest villain in all of comics (don't get your feathers ruffled, Dave. The Joker's also the greatest villain, but in a very different way.) But beyond Luthor, who does Supes have? One word: Brainiac. Awww yeah, now that's an evil robot mastermind villain. Maybe we'll see the Bottle City of Kandor yet.

I really didn't want to be in Fakespeare this year. Sept. 10th and 11th they're scheduled to perform a Hamlet parody in Philly for the well-known Fringe festival. They messed up and cast me as Claudius, and when I said I couldn't do it they understood and said it was ok, they'd find someone else. Well guess what? 5 actors later, they still have no Claudius. I'd be a fool to agree to this, of course, and I stood my ground.

Then they bribed me. If I did this, they'd find me at least a sound designer for "Vigil." As yet, I still need a sound, set, and lighting designer for this play, and after the debacle that was Joe Egg, I'm a little concerned if I will find anyone.

(Um... would anyone *here* like to be my set and/or lighting designer? By any bizarre chance?)

So shit. I'm in the show, and I'm going to have to miss the opening weekend. Looks like I'll be seeing alla y'all at the DC Arts Center. Ah well, maybe this'll work out for the best. I'll be able to bring Fakesperians like Val and Liam along. Still, what a pain in the butt.

I know for a fact I'm in this show, so it's only a matter of which role Jason's going to decide to give me for this portion of my performance thesis. The question is which role am I going to get? Based on the readings he was having me do, I think it's gonna come down between the lead role and Hitler.

I mean, I know I delivered a damn good reading. My main competition is almost certainly this really cool guy who is the favorite leading man for plays. But on the other hand, Hitler is not a very large role, whereas the lead obviously is, and I'd think the director would give me a substantive role on which to base my thesis.

On the other hand, I delivered a better, funnier Hitler than anyone else out there. It wasn't hard, I was just being my loud self. Seriously guys, how hard it is to SHOUT and SCREAM like Hitler? Not bloody hard, I'd think. It was fun, and it offred some good opportunities for laughs, but I'd rather not be Hitler if it's all the same to you, thanks.

We find out tomorrow. Until then, Heil Myself!
