I think MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE was a seriously underrated show. I mean, it wasn't hugely memorable in any real way, nothing that really stuck with me. Heck, I didn't even know it was still on the air when I saw the series finale a few months back. Blame FOX yet again for letting down a great show (see also: FUTURAMA, FIREFLY, TITUS, THE TICK, BRISCO COUNTY, etc) in favor of crap like THE WAR AT HOME (Michael Rappaport as the Al Bundy of the new generation? God help us all).

Anyway, they re-ran the final episode earlier tonight, and dear lord it was brilliant. What a beautiful way to end a series, highlighted at the climactic moment with an absolutely brilliant monologue from the mother. The context, for those of you who'll actually click on that link, is that Malcolm is college bound, and when he was offered high-paying job with full benefits that would have set him for life, his parents turned it down, much to his frustration. Meanwhile, Reese prepares a sewage bomb, because he's like that.

What a great little show, gone without any fanfare or attention. Too bad. Also, Bryan Cranston is a criminally underappreciated comedic genius. Even Entertainment Weekly bemoans the fact that he's consistently overlooked for an Emmy every year.

In girlfriend news, Bloo's arrived safely in Chicago, but is sadly without internet for the time being. Not being able to IM shall prove difficult. After all, with IM 75% of the time and phone 25%, we've been in touch virtually every single day, talking for hours on end. We still don't know why we haven't run out of things to talk about!!!

I've sent her an actual hand-written letter of various ramblings, plus CD mixes of Leonard Cohen, The Cure (neither of whom has she ever listen to), and Moby. The Moby mix is a combination of stuff pre-"Play" and select tracks from his latest, "Hotel."

I'm slowly starting to discover that most of you who loved Moby's "Play" have not heard "Hotel," mostly because of how much y'all hated "18." I personally adored "Hotel," mainly because it's mostly original stuff, less sampling. He does sampling way better than most (Fatboy Slim, urgh... great videos, but I hate listening to it) but even with Moby, there are only so many times one can listen to the same fucking line of dialogue repeated over and over and over.
