I attempted to finally write my review of STRANGER THAN FICTION, but gave up on account of two reasons:
1.) I still am having a hard time wrapping my brain around how to express my thoughts on the ending, mainly due to the inside/outside-the-box metafiction nature of the film itself. It gets very complicated. Maybe I'll write my review anyway, but leave the ending thoughts out. If you catch me in person and want to talk about it, by all means, do. I'm very interested to hear if others agree or not and why.
2.) I am drunk. (and that's not just an excuse to use my new LEON icon, but it's certainly a nice benefit)
I will, however, express a thought or two over a couple movies I've seen recently. For your enjoyment, of course.
LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE: A fun, nice, little movie that was totally overhyped for me (I wanted so desperately to have said "browncoated,"
charisma18, but I don't think it'd work since it was a mainstream hit and not so much confined to a fandom) I have a feeling this and DREAMGIRLS will both be nominated for Best Picture at this point, although there are far more deserving films. But ain't that always the case?
PAN'S LABYRINTH is a masterpiece. I have nothing to add. Go see it.
THE FOUNTAIN is still the greatest film I have seen all year, but even I admit it's not for everyone. PAN'S LABYRINTH, on the other hand, I would recommend to each and every one of you on my friends list. I don't want to spoil anything, and really, the less I tell you, the better off you'll be. Let me just say that a movie hasn't quite affected me (an old softie like me, even) like that in a long, long time.
Go. See it.
