Dude. Aquaman was on Smallville. And he was wearing green and orange. And he called Clark "Superboy." And suggested that they should form a club, the "Junior Lifeguards Association." Yes, it's corny, but fuck it, it's a comics reference. And he was even pretty badass, which is just what Arthur Curry, King of the Seven Seas, should be. Sweeeeet.

Could have lived without him calling himself "A.C." and constantly addressing Clark as "bro," but this is the WB, so what're you gonna do, right?

Also, James Marsters shows great promise as Brainiac. I can't get over how totally non-Spike he is, and it's glorious.

But I still not-so-secretly hope that by the end of the season he'll look like this.

Feeling a bit better, but my headache seems to have undergone a Pokemon-style evolution. Ow.

for those of the non-DC persuasion, what's the deal with Brainiac? He's a computer, right? I was definitely digging Marsters' character.

And dude, INCREDIBLY weak of you to miss the cheesiest comics pun of the show.

It wasn't the "Junior Lifeguards League". It was the "Junior Lifeguards Association." The initials are kind of important because Clark went on to say "I'm not ready for the JLA just yet."

How the hell did you miss that?

Gee, maybe because my brain is totally fried from flu!!!!! I DID get the joke, that's what I was trying to post there, dude. Bah.

As for Brainiac, his original origin is that he's a computer given humanoid form from the planet Colu. His programming is to collect all the information in the universe, and once he's collected something (such as the entire recorded history of a planet or whole cities which he has shrunk down into bottles, like the Kryptonian city of Kandor) he destroys it afterwards. His goal is to destroy all of creation so he will be the sole possessor of this information.

He took on a more silver, scary robotic form duing the Crisis on Infinite Earths era. After the Crisis reboot of Superman, the new take on Brainiac had him take over the body of Milton Fine, who I believe was some kind of traveling salesman, I forget. He returned a few years ago as a fully computer-animated character in the comics as Brainiac 2.0 (yawn). Currently he's back to green lightbulb-head form. In the Superman animated series and subsequently the JLA cartoon, he's not from Colu but Krypton, and helped let Krypton die so he could have the information all to himself. He and Lex have frequently had very... dubious partnerships over the years.
