Drinking! For SCIENCE!
Dec. 24th, 2005 07:04 pmMy theorem goes as follows:
Bailey's Irish Cream + Egg Nog = CRAZY DELICIOUS
Full report on the experiment forthcoming.
(if I refridgerate Baileys after opening it, how long will it last?)

Date: 2005-12-25 12:38 am (UTC)I have a strange fascination for Aaron Burr, can't quite explain it. Add to that, I'm a sucker for historical/literary jokes, and it makes me a happy Heffie.

Date: 2005-12-25 06:47 am (UTC)I'm fascinated with the entire concept of duels, myself. That's probably it for me. Such ritual and civility for something that's basically insane!
I'm a sucker for historical/literary jokes
My brother (who's also a John) and I are too...we get them most of the time, and look them up when we don't. You learn some cool stuff that way! I love it when folks don't play comedy to the lowest common denominator all the time. Historical and literary jokes are like a reward for engaging my brain as a viewer!

Date: 2005-12-26 12:23 am (UTC)I totally get that reward idea! It's like a cookie for your brain! My favorite literary in-joke is in "The Producers," which they kept for the musical, even though no one gets it but me, it seems. "Yes, Prince Myshkin, how may I be of service?" I was the only one in the theatre giggling. (Look it up if you must... it's from one of my all-time favorite novels)

Date: 2005-12-26 01:49 am (UTC)I'd also suggest The Brothers Karamazov, as it's my favorite novel of all time. It is in many ways a redux of The Idiot, although much more hopeful and more fully realized. Even if you don't care for The Idiot, I'd wholeheartedly suggest giving that one a try.
In either case, it's imperitive that you read the latest translation by Richard Pevear and Larissa Volohonsky, as the old ones, particularly the Constance Garrett translations, are as dry and boring as everyone thinks Russian literature is.

Date: 2005-12-26 07:26 am (UTC)Yeah, do let me know what you think of The Idiot! And if you can track it down, I really loved the movie of Brothers Karamazov starring Yul Brenner and William Shatner.

And if you can track it down, I really loved the movie of Brothers Karamazov starring Yul Brenner and William Shatner.
Well, if the question involves Yul Brenner, the answer from me is almost always yes, so I'll do my best to find it. :-)

I don't suppose the name "Aaron Burr" means anything to you fellas either, huh? That's my personal favorite joke in the rap.

Date: 2005-12-25 03:54 am (UTC)You'd think the "got milk?" commercial would have set that bit of trivia firmly in the public conscious... or maybe it did.
<3 the new icons, btw.

Date: 2005-12-25 04:27 am (UTC)And I've taken the opportunity to use up all the Lazy Sunday icons here, since I wasn't sure if I'd ever get the chance elsewhere. Glad you like 'em!

Date: 2005-12-25 02:34 am (UTC)In the meantime, some of gawayn's friends described how to make a "ghemosa" at thanksgiving dinner, and I'd like to give you the theorem for that:
Coors Lite + Orange Juice = Not so CRAZY DELICIOUS
Now that would be a weird flavor combo.

Date: 2005-12-25 02:37 am (UTC)But that theorem you describe above sounds, to use another friend's term, totally grody. Then again, you could at least choose a better beer, couldn't you?

Date: 2005-12-25 03:42 pm (UTC)and btw, i stand corrected. I tried your theorem last night and it was actually pretty good. i still tend to prefer brandy or bourbon in my eggnog, but i was shocked at how good it was with bailey's. you know what the best eggnog combo is though? It's the eggnog chai latte they make at starbucks. HOLY SHIT, eggnog and chai work sooooo so well together, it's amazing.
