1.) Okay, um, I don't know how many of you actually read my last post and just didn't comment, or just skimmed past it, but since only one person commented, let me say again here:

THE ORIGINAL UNALTERED STAR WARS TRILOGY WILL BE HITTING DVD.

(!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Come on, people, I *know* I'm not the only one dumbfounded with excitement over this. And unlike me, many of you actually saw them when they originally came out!

2.) I just bought, sight unseen, Spike Lee's movie 25TH HOUR. I heard great things, but really, I just wanted to have something for the actress who plays Callisto in X3 come next Thursday. I mean, I can have all the other actors sign my copy of X2, but she's not in it. And since she's in 25TH HOUR along with Anna Paquin, hey, two birds. Two sexy birds. Even though one of those birds seriously needs to look like Patti Smith.

(I'm wondering what I should say to/ask Anna Paquin. "Hey Anna, I loved The Squid and the Whale! What was it like kissing Jeff Daniels! EWWWWWW!")

3.) So I just caught a large chunk of BATMAN RETURNS on TV. Haven't seen it for years. Um... am I the only one who thinks that, beautiful Burton imagery and Elfman music aside, this movie is on par with BATMAN AND ROBIN levels of awfulness? Because it's painfully, painfully terrible.

Catwoman says she needs a bath and proceeds to lick herself for Christ's sake! Only the Walken factor makes it watchable (as the Walken factor always does), but only when he's on screen. Jesus, this movie blows.

And the first BATMAN ain't exactly aging gracefully either. It's a great Joker movie but a lousy Batman film. Not even that; it's a great Jack movie, but not the true comics Joker.

I'm telling you, give Mark Hamill the prosthetics artists behind SIN CITY and you will have the greatest Joker of all time.

Agreeance.

actually, I snagged the link, passed it on to a group of friends and put my feet up to enjoy the sparks fly as the old debaters touted their horns and the not so passionate people took it.

So thanks. It's tres shiny.

'cause Han shoots first.

I particularly like the fact that while that wasn't mentioned in the article, it was what is pictured ;)

**and Walken is always worth watching

Somehow, I'm just less offended by the changes Lucas made to Star Wars than everybody else was.

With the exception of the lame Jabba CGI, Greedo shooting first, the rap at Jabba's place, and the Sarlacc pit getting a fucking beak, I was fine, even happy, with the all changes in the new theatrical release.

However, for the DVD I was NOT happy by all the Stormtroopers and Boba Fett all having Jango Fett's fucking voice. And I was downright PISSED having Hayden Christensen's ghost standing alongside Alec Guiness at the end. Still looking evil, even!

It's the Han Shooting First thing that seems to inspire all of the wrath. I just don't get it. It's just so... self-conscious. Had Lucas released it with Greedo shooting first in the first place, I don't think anybody would be saying, "Gosh, I would have thought Han was a badass, but he really should have shot Greedo first."

To put it another way: the amount of ink expended on complaining about Lucas on this subject so far exceeds the amount of difference that it actually makes in the movie that I'm totally incapable of having an opinion about the scene other than a faint distaste for the amount of effort the fans are putting into it. And that's for my favorite movie of all time. Really, it is.

Sure, I agree with you, if they'd originally done it that way, no one would complain. But he did, which did set him apart from your normal white hat good guys (and Luke, of course).

I suppose it's just such a petty bit of PC-ness, along with all the feds in ET carrying walkie-talkies. It's such a little thing, but the little things that are so close to a fan's heart (especially those who grew up with it), and changing that, especially for such a lame reason, is kinda maddening. ESPECIALLY when Lucas spent so long being adamant about how he'd refuse the originals to be seen anymore; he wanted to replace it. And while I totally respect his artistic wishes, I'm so happy that we'll be able to have both versions. And I will buy both.

I'm certainly glad that the originals are coming out. Mostly New Hope, actually. That's the most important movie in my life, and I might as well see the film that made me think that.

I bought them on widescreen dvd special edition already cause they said they weren't going to bring the originals to DVD...fucking pricks. It was all a ploy to make me buy them again.

On the plus side, I must say, for all the blood-boiling changes those DVDs are gorgeous. The best remastering I've ever seen on a movie, I think.

I'm gonna buy both sets. But I still ain't buyin' the prequels.

I am very happy about this news! Now I no longer need cling to my old Laser Disc copies with the thought that one day I'll learn how to transfer them over to DVDs.

So glad that I convinced my Dad to not shell out money for the recut dvds. Now I can watch the trilogy with surround sound and all that fun stuff for the first time in years! Bliss. A victory for the fans indeed!

And I didn't care much for either of the Burton Batman movies, all flash and no substance, yeah? And as far Jokers go, Jack was just being Jack, Mark Hamill + prosthetics will equal greatness, but like a Gina Torres Wonder Woman it simply will not happen no matter how awesome the prospect, so I'm routing for Paul Bettany to get the part in the next Batman movie, as I think he'll make a creepy cool Joker. *takes deep breath*

Whoa whoa, Batman Returns had it's flaws. I'll grant you that, but comparing it to Batman and Robin is being a bit harsh...no..downright mean..no movie hits Batman and Robin levels of awfulness except maybe Cabin Fever..ugh..I do agree that Hamill would be a marvelous joker, as would Brad Dourif. I also agree that Walken rules, it's too bad that whole Walken for President '08 turned out to be a hoax cause I would've voted for him

Christopher Walken makes anything watchable.

I still don't understand the big hoopla over Han shooting first.

I really, really liked 25th hour.

Actually, I thought 25th Hour was more than a little boring. It's fun arguing with Mike about that since he loves that movie.

I actually like Batman Returns alot-it's not really Batman in the way that Batman Begins is, but it's a wonderfully weird movie and a great melancholy romance-I love what DeVito does with the Penguin (he reminds me always of a character from the 1932 movie Freaks, trying to get vengeance for the society that rejected him) and Pfieffer is just damn sexy, to me the romance between Batman and Catwoman totally worked.
And 25th Hour is a great great movie. Brian Cox's monologue entrances me.
