Hrm, Woolly Mammoth called me up for an audition for Neil LaBute's The Distance from Here, but I can't make it because I'll be in London. Well, assuming I don't get into Catholic U and Gordon cancels our tickets.

Hmm. I wonder if we should reschedule after all? If we even can without a fee or forfeit?

But is it even worth it, I also wonder? I have to be very specific about what shows a do. The play sounds extremely depressing and ugly, and while this *is* Woolly, it might also be the kind of exposure that I wouldn't want in the longer run. Besides, this is my second audition at Woolly, indicating that they seem to be interested in me enough that this shall probably not be my last.

Bloody hell. Honestly, unless it's a real gem of a role I'm being offered, I'd just wanna do Hefner Monologues for now.

I'll wait for Gordon to get back to me and see what our tickets are set for, if maybe I can't finagle my way 'round it someone. If I even want to.

a job is a job.

the more you have on your resume, the better it looks.

more diversity in roles, more experience, etc.

i know this isnt a blanket truth, but i think its a pretty good point.

I used to think that until I auditioned for Gary at Catholic U a couple months back.

One thing that Gary told me is to NOT NOT NOT just take any role, *especially* not to pad your resume. He said to be VERY CHOOSY in what roles I take. He said that, as with "David Dance", not all exposure is good. I want to be in shows where I can be seen and remembered in a role that better suits my abilities, as well as the kind of roles I want to be doing in the future.

So I think the policy of "a job is a job" is very, very bad and wrong now.

you make a really good point.

but i will still say that large gaps in a resume tends to not look great, and not being exposed at all isnt helping anything (not that you arent exposed at all, you know what i mean).

so i guess i'd say balance the two ideas.. experience that will stretch you and make for a good resume, but also being careful what roles you choose. Woolly is a good theatre, and is currently becoming one of the major players in DC theatre.. its really on its way up.

but then, Gary knows waaaaay more than i do.

especially with a LaBute play. His stuff is very strong.

So is that a "you should definitely do it!" from you? LaBute is indeed strong, but I don't know yet if he's to my taste. The only thing of his I've seen is FAT PIG, which I loved, but I understand that it's a little bit more compassionate than his usual fare.

I'm actually not sure. It was more of a point-of-interest. Last year Studio had 3 things of his running at once. If asked to give a yea-nay on that, I'd lean towards Nay right now. I _know_ that you could do it. But I do not think you would _like_ doing it.
