While I normally hate remakes of classics, I honestly have no big problem about Rob Zombie remaking HALLOWEEN. Mainly because I hate that damn movie. I think it's boring and overrated. Michael Myers himself especially; I know some folks might find an unstoppable, personality-devoid killer who has virtually no motivation scary, but forgive me if I think otherwise.

I mean, honestly, the only reason I have to watch the HALLOWEEN movies (aside from the Atkins-rific III: SEASON OF THE WITCH) is Donald Pleasance, who throws every inch of his acting talent into his performance as Dr. Loomis. His cries of anguish at the end of Part 4 were really quite harrowing. Well, anyway, Rob Zombie has announced who he's cast for his new Dr. Loomis.

Malcolm. Mc. Fucking. Dowell.

Ok. I am totally on board.

Malcom McDowell? eh I liked him in Tank Girl

Rob is doing a new Halloween? Great I loved Devil’s Rejects. Why is Mikey scary? Well for me it’s, as you said, Donald Pleasance All the things he says about him make him scary. If Donald wasn’t building him up I wouldn’t have cared. Simarlary Jaws didn’t bother me until Robert Shaw was on the boat 3/4 of the way through the movie talking about the Indianapolis and shark’s eyes, then I got scared. The one thing that bothers me is Rob likes his gore, and gore is fine for say Miss’s Vorhees baby boy, but The original Halloween was almost bloodless. That and it was a sleeper hit and really the first of it’s kind as far as “slasher” movies go. And it made Bill Shatner the face of evil for years to come.

You liked season of the witch? I watched it half expecting Batman to show up beat up everyone and then try to figure out which one of them was The Joker. Face melting Halloween kiddie masks, this just scream Mistah J!

If that Tank Girl thing was meant to be sarcastic, I only remind you of things like O! LUCKY MAN, TIME AFTER TIME, and his voiceover work as Metallo. Oh, and that film he did playing a psychotic youth, what was it... ah yes, IF...

Yeah, I just have no interest in Ol' Shatner Face. Honestly, following along a similar model, I'll take Jason any day. Not that his movies are any better necessarily, but damn it, he actually has personality! Comparatively, anyway.

I actually understand there's some argument over the first "slasher." Some say HALLOWEEN, others say the original BLACK CHRISTMAS. I really do have to check it out sometime.

Those attributes you ascribe to HALLOWEEN (nearly bloodless, sleeper) are actually the very reasons I adore the original TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE. Now that, I see the hype. Hell, I push the hype. I consider that film a work of art (in spite of itself sometimes).

I didn't say I liked it necessarily. I said it was Atkins-rific. World of difference. (But I do loves me some Tom Atkins... like Walken or Harry Dean Stanton, his mere presence in a film bumps it up a letter grade). But that Joker thing is a great point. I gotta remember to steal... er, I mean, homage that idea some day.

Well Jason has personality...

and personality goes a long way
Of course Jason has personality, you need only look at his great interview with Arsino Hall for proof of that. And yeah the Tank Girl line was a bit of the Snark, though I did like parts of that movie, mostly Mal and a bouncy bountiful Naomi Watts as a brunette. Oddly I have almost no respect for TCM, mostly due to the .45 test. This test is as follows, would we have a movie even if one of the characters was a reasonably competent guy with a loaded .45. Massacre fails on that level with me, if all I need to do to live is shoot the screaming cannibal with the noisiest melee weapon ever then I’m good. This goes back to why Mike scares me a little, along with Loomis’s build up of him he forces me to think outside my happy little para-military box.

Clearly, we must attempt to destroy one another.

So based on the .45 test, do you then dislike PSYCHO (another one that some folks credit as the birth of the slasher film)?

I have not seen this Arsenio thing! Once the store empties out a bit, I shall go to youtube!
