Working at the comic shop on the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday before Christmas is not for the weak. Especially when every third customer says, "Hey, I'm shopping for someone who's a huge comic fan but I don't know anything about comics. What would be something good for them?" "Ok, well, uh, do you know what they don't have?" *wide eyed doggie stare*

It's also vaguely disconcerting at moments like this, when I have a customer in the store who looks like a short, slightly nerdier Udo Kier. This is even worse than that customer who looks like the Cigarette Smoking Man from X-FILES.

One girl came in looking for a book for her 10-year-old brother, only to take notice of the latest ACTION PHILOSOPHERS collection. She'd never picked up a comic book in her life before and was completely taken with the series. I live for moments like that.

I've also been playing the new Meat Loaf album in the store non-stop (well, actually, I occasionally play my Oingo Boingo mix or Danny Elfman's "Serenada Schizophrana" to spice things up). It's surprisingly excellent. "Blind As A Bat" might be my current favorite song; it's easily one of Meat's best songs ever, made all the more amazing by the fact that it's not a Jim Steinman song.

There are several of Jim's songs here, including a couple which were intended for his BATMAN musical with Tim Burton. They're fine Meat Loaf songs, but holy god, thank Eddie's Teddy that the musical never happened. The thought of "Livin' La Vida Joker" being a reality... *shudder* But seriously, when I hear a song like "In The Land of the Pig, The Butcher is King," I have to wonder where the hell that could have ANY place in a BATMAN MUSICAL.

Also, Meat's version of "It's All Coming Back To Me Now"? Yeah, totally beats the crap outta Celine Dion's. Which wasn't all that hard to do, but still.

Ok, that's enough distraction for now. In my quiet moments at the shop, I've actually been inspired to write a short Christmas fanfic. God, what's happened to me?! Fanfic! I'm appalled at myself, I really am. I hope to have it posted here by tomorrow or Christmas.

ACTION PHILOSOPHERS sounds cool. Amazon claims it's pre-order. Do you have them in stock?

I'm good for xmas presents this year, but I'm going to buy a copy and stick it in the box for next year.

It's a great book, yeah, but I think vol. 1 is out of print already! At least, since amazon has it on pre-order and we're sold out here, from what I can tell, I'm assuming that's the case. It shouldn't be long before the new printing comes through, since we just got vol. 2 this week. We still have about five copies of that in stock.

Volume one isn't out of print - and it never will be.
Amazon's info is always faulty when it comes to our books.

Holy mother of... you read my LJ? Or did your Action Philosophers-sense tingle at my mention of your book and summon you here?

Well, if it ain't outta print, our store is very sold out of the first volume. But then the good news is we can reorder it promptly, so huzzah! It's increasingly popular and we definitely want it in stock.

Definitely keep up the good work (and if you ever get further down the existentialists, I very much look forward to the one of Dostoevsky)!

I'm probably mistaken of this, but that picture of Udo Kier isn't from My Own Private Idaho is it?

I get the same thing at borders. I just love the "I'm looking for a (book, manga, graphic novel, cd, movie) for a person and I don't know what to get." The other fun one is when they completly mangle the title or author's name and insist they are correct.
