And what's really funny-- or sad, depending on how you look at it-- is that AQUA TEEN HUNGER FORCE just isn't that good.
Oh, it used to be, don't get me wrong. I don't dare compare it to THE SIMPSONS, but in seasons past ATHF had some fucking great episodes. "Broodwich" and "Dumber Dolls" immediately come to mind. I didn't get it or care for it at first, but once I saw a few episodes and got into the mindset, it truly became a Sunday night college staple. I mean, c'mon folks, characters like Carl and Boxy Brown are awesome.
But the current season is an exercise in dadaist torture, and all reports of the movie (regardless of the vocal presence of Bruce Campbell) say it's not much better. The most bitterly amusing aspect of this whole thing is watching all the mainstream news outlets like Fox News try and utterly fail to comprehend ATHF. The only thing worse than unleashing an entire film of that to the world is the knowledge that it's a crappier, lamer, unfunny imitation of something that is a pale imitation of a once-excellent dada comedy.
Beyond that, I don't suppose I can add any real insight or opinions that hasn't already been covered much better on
shadowcaptain's LJ. At least, so I imagine, since I can't read the entry. While I would like to see this as a one-sided issue, looking down on an idiotic populace for just not getting it or something along those lines, I can't. It would be foolish and irresponsible to do so, methinks.
Still. I truly do fear for what'll happen to humanity when the zombie apocalypse comes.

Date: 2007-02-02 06:24 pm (UTC)Fuck them in the ass with a giant purple pinecone.
Bloggers don't write news. They write opinion. Vast reams of ill-informed, unedited, massively redundant opinion. They're perfectly entitled to do so. Pick your favorite at read it.
How did the bloggers find out about this event? They read about it in the Mainstream Media. Except for the ones who copied it from other bloggers, who copied it from other bloggers, who were actually on the scene in Boston.
No, they weren't on the fucking scene in fucking Boston. Those original bloggers also read about it in the Mainstream Media.
If the Mainstream Media collapsed, the bloggers would have nothing to write about except to post pictures of their kitties. And of themselves, holding signs, pretending that because they're In On The Joke that they've got the situation well in hand.
Self-important hypocritical motherfuckers.
This story has nothing NOTHING to do with ATHF. This story has to do with how the police are going to react when unexpected and suspicious things happen. Are we going to be held hostage forever to every suspicious package? Are we at risk of serious damage to the economy because we're so busy protecting ourselves that an advertising agency that thinks they're Andy Kaufman can stop work in a major city?
The only way the bloggers are going to "handle this story from here on out" is in endless self-congratulation that because the actual news services reported the story first they didn't get to report the whole thing. And because they're young, ironic, and hip they would never have gotten the thing wrong in the first place, if only they'd been there, which of course they weren't.
Go fuck yourselves.

Date: 2007-02-02 06:37 pm (UTC)Frankly, I'm just so disillusioned with the major news outlets more and more as time goes on. I'm never quite certain who to trust, who to believe... unbiased is likely an impossibility, but trying to find the most objectivity that's also got the balls to actually stand up and tell the stories that need to be told rather than just... what, infotainment?
Regardless, I honestly do agree with you on the bloggers thing, and willfully ignored that knowledge in the interest of smartassery. And so with that I withdraw the image.
But still, couldn't you have responded which such venom on Roddy's LJ rather than mine? I'm fairly certain you're saying "go fuck yourselves" to the mass of bloggers rather than at me, but that's the second time someone has used that word directed (if not, in this case, directly) towards me, and I didn't much like it the first time.
Besides, wouldn't this rant be much more fitting in your own LJ or on one of the more visible outlets rather than in one of an influence-deprived comic geek on LJ?

Date: 2007-02-02 06:48 pm (UTC)I'm kind of upset by this story. Actually, I'm just upset, generally; I have had a bad week. And so I'm not making particularly good choices.
I apologize; I really shouldn't have done that to you. I don't object to your post at all. I didn't mean it as a correction. Journals and blogs are opinions, and you expressed yours.
I'm just on a short fuse. I hate ranting in my own blog because... because that's what too many blogs are for. I don't like expressing when I'm unhappy because for too many people, unhappiness is all there is, and I want to be the opposite. I should have extended that courtesy to your blog, too, and would have if I'd been thinking clearly today.
So I'll stick in a third apology, not that apologies really do all that much good. I really am sorry that I upset you; you didn't deserve it.

Date: 2007-02-02 07:04 pm (UTC)But hey, it's what your LJ is for! Besides, you almost never post unhappy entries like most people, so it's not like doing it now will turn you into... well, me two years ago.
It's totally cool, really. And thankee.
