I bought my mother the first issue of the DARK TOWER comic and she squeed. My mother... actually squeed. Seeing as how I was the one that got her hooked on the books, I suppose it's what I deserve.

For those curious, I've taken the liberty of scanning and posting almost half of the issue on [livejournal.com profile] scans_daily. So once again, if you're interested in obtaining an issue (and if you're in my area), let me know and I'll get you a copy next time I go into work.

Also, does anyone have a digital camcorder that I might be able to borrow this Tuesday? I want to record my performance at the Speakeasy open mic, and if it's good, I can post it for others to see!

Forgive me if I sound off, I experimented with a new drink called a "Boardwalk," which is gin, sweet vermouth, dry vermouth, and strawberries all thrown in a blender. Not bad at all, but even one drink is pretty strong.

So again, yes, if you can lend me a digital camcorder (or bring it along to film me this Tuesday!) I would so greatly appreciate it. Thankee, sai!

Thoughts on Dark Tower?

I think Jae's artwork on that title is phenomenal.

Totally. I think much of that definitely goes to the colorist, whose work I really didn't like in 1602 (that whole digital painting thing? Eugh) but am loving here. They work wonderfully together.

For starters, thanks so much for getting me the issue. I totally owe you big time. It brought back all sorts of wonderful memories.

That being said, while I enjoy the artwork, the jury is still out on the narration. I don't know... something just felt a little stilted... the language felt more forced than natural.

Of course, there were some great moments. Having the shot of the skeleton in the desert on "The man in black fled across the desert..." and then cutting to the boot stepping down and snapping the bones in two on "...and the gunslinger followed" was good.

Probably my favorite part of the issue was the little history lesson about the beams at the end. Cleared some stuff I'd always wondered about.

Quite welcome!

Really, the narration didn't work for you? That's too bad; Mom and I were oohing and aahing over it. I think it's possibly the best faithful King adaptation I've ever seen, and were it a movie, I'd be mightily happy.

I'm just a sucker for all the Dark Tower-isms, so take that into account.

Frankly, reading over the comments on my DT [livejournal.com profile] scans_daily post, I'm amazed by how many passionately different responses this is getting. People are mightily opinionated when it comes to Stephen King; I never realized just how controversial a writer he was.
