What in the name of Dormammu's flaming testicles is going on with my lower back? Starting about an hour ago, I get up out of my chair here in the comic store to discover that my lower back aches like a motherfucker. And it's only gotten worse! When I sit down, I'm pretty much fine. But when I stand up? OUCH, MOTHERFUCKER. We're not exactly near "blinding" levels of pain, here; I'm not breaking out in sweats from it. It's firmly in "this sucks" territory for the time being.
Of course, I'm just reminded that this is but a fraction of what my mother, with that loose disc in her spine, has to live with on a daily basis. I wish I could get ahold of her. Maybe she'd know what to do. Or would be willing to give me some of her OxyContin.
On to far more pleasant news, for the benefit especially of
kali921 (if you were on-line, I'd have sent this to you promptly), is the first official image of Robert Downey Jr. as Tony goddamn Stark.

ROCK. Ow.
(I'm trying to hotlink the above image, so if it doesn't show, I'll promptly get on fixing it)

Date: 2007-04-27 07:12 pm (UTC)Back pain: Does the pain go down one side mostly, or is it centered? If it's down one side, congratulations, you've likely irritated your sciatic nerve, which hurts like a mother. (Several of the tumors on my spine are either on or surround the L5/S1 junction on my left side, better known as the base of my left sciatic nerve. When they flare up, I can barely walk.) The pain is better when you sit and worse when you move because sitting allows the muscles to relax and and stop irritating the tender nerve. You have my utmost sympathy.

Oh, and stretch your back gently for a few minutes, and ice where it hurts for ten minutes 3 x day.

Sidenote: exactly how many books have you stamped for May 5th? I'm getting carpal tunnel from prepping from Free Comic Book Day. I also cut my jaw open because I had one of our boxes fall on top of me at work.

PS. What did you think of Amazons Attack?

Date: 2007-04-28 05:35 am (UTC)I found Amazons Attack to be... well, I must admit, I have little knowledge nor investment in Wonder Woman or her history. Aside from the Phil Jimenez/Joe Kelly "Lois Lane/Diana interview" one-shot, which I personally thought was wonderful (which means that most serious WW fans probably hate it, just my luck), I've never been able to attach much interest in the character. That said, I've always highly respected that character, and her importance in the DCU, not to mention the rich strength and potential for a good writer to channel.
As for Amazons Attack... well, maybe it is or maybe it isn't out of character for the Amazons to brutally slaughter children, and maybe we will or maybe we won't get a reasonable explanation for why the hell Hippolyta would be acting this much out of character. Based on this single first issue, I'm frankly not all that interested in another seemingly ugly storyline about an ugly conflict where good characters will likely get screwed over.
Also, bear in mind, my perception has been tainted by the last two issues of WONDER WOMAN, which even I can see just ain't right on a whole number of levels. Ugh!
But it's only the first issue. I'll at least read it in the store to see where it's going. In some ways, though, it reminds me of SILENT WAR, which pisses me off even though I know/care about the Inhumans about as much as Diana!
And yet, I'm strangely looking forward to World War Hulk, so go figure.

Date: 2007-04-28 05:39 am (UTC)I've got a hunch that it might have to do with something about Circe's kid. Then again, I really don't care much for WW-- though I do suspect that some jackass is going to start quizzing me about it.
I did manage to sneak the latest Catwoman in between bagging and boarding tonight. I'm thinking Holly needs to invest in some Blue Beetle technology to keep villains from unmasking her ALL THE TIME.

Date: 2007-04-28 05:45 am (UTC)Well, I hear Holly's gonna play some big role in Countdown. And really, the only thing I care about Countdown is that Paul Dini's writing it, so that right there has me interested. Perhaps he'll figure out a way to keep the damn fucking mask on. Because you're totally right on that.

Date: 2007-04-28 05:47 am (UTC)That should be interesting. I'm just tired of countdowns personally. And company-wide crossovers, with that and all the variant covers my store picks up I'm starting to think it's the 90s again.
I'm partial to the old Peppermint Patty-centric strips myself.
