thehefner: (Harvey Dent: I Believe In Harvey)

More I've thought about it, and the more I've read up on it, I'm still kinda waiting for news to hit that the Joker image is a hoax. Even though both aintitcool.com and chud.com think it's the real deal, this wouldn't be the first time they've been suckered by a hoax. Nor the first time that hoax was a picture of Heath Ledger as the Joker, for that matter. That website is not, it turns out, directly linked to WB, as the "I Believe in Harvey Dent" poster was. But this could still be a case of clever viral marketers covering their tracks. But why would they?

So we'll wait and see. Just like, no matter what the Joker finally looks like, we'll have to wait and see what the hell the Joker's gonna be like on screen.

Still. I would be very happy to be suckered here. At least I'd know that half the internet would have been suckered right along with me. But considering that the actual Joker in the comics recently had his face similarly scarred into a permanent smile (and how stupid is that idea, huh? Bad enough the Joker's written as a one-note grinning lunatic by most writers as it is, but this will just seal the deal), it seems highly likely they wanted to match the movie version as soon as possible. Just like Spidey having his black suit back, even if the reasons behind it make little sense.

So, fingers crossed.

Meantime, I'm going to drink beer and watch ROCKY IV-VI. It's always darkest before the dawn, y'know? And then, soon shall come my ROCKY megapost. This has the potential to be one of the most fascinating cinematic experiences I've ever had, seriously.

Carl Weathers is my personal savior, yo.

Oddly, the lads and I will be watching the WWE pay-per-view this fine eve, meaning that prolonged-count-with-both-fighters-face-down trick WILL be used.
It is referred to, at least by me, as a Rocky II.

It would be interesting if it was a hoax, after seeing some of the screen caps that people have taken of the emails that got sent after signing up and some of the messages that got popped up on the site itself (ex: "trying to cheat a cheater/you make me smile" in a creepy font)

Apparently the WB did send out some defaced playing cards (jokers, naturally) with the website address on them to some comic book stores, so it might still be a viral thing. Photos of the cards (and email screen caps) here.

The one from my previous post, which can be found here:

I know the first one was a hoax, but I'm hoping this one will be too. It appeared just yesterday.

Aye, I think so too. But we've already been hoaxed a couple times, and besides, I read this:

http://www.comics2film.com/b/index.php?blog=17&title=is_this_the_joker&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1

Which brings up some good points. But yeah, I fear it is real. Especially since comics!Joker has recently had his face similarly mutilated just a couple months ago. Hrm.

Actually, after it looks like the source for the playing card thing is a shaky sounding post on superherohype. So it sounds like it could still be another hoax. Hmm...

Also, are there any scans of scarred comics Joker?

I looked, but sadly could find nothing. The first and only appearance is in the Grant Morrison/Jon Van Fleet issue of Batman which was prose will accompanying illustrations. Shitty art too, looking like sub-REBOOT early 90's CGI. Worst comic I've read all year.

And yet the Joker that appeared in COUNTDOWN doesn't have the scars. Did they forget already, are they ignoring it, or is that yet to happen?

the sad thing here is that if this isn't a hoax, it really shatters my faith in Nolan's ability to get things right. He did a wonderful job of keeping things real world in the last one, but still having things look like the comic book. Ra's still had his goatee, the scare crow still had the mask, and batman still wore a bat suit, and it all looked good and cool and believable in a well thought out and, for want of a better word, mature way. This joker make up doesn't match up in the least. The Joker here looks like a 14 year old goth kid smearing face paint and lipstick across his face for the first time so he looks the part when he goes to see Marilyn Manson on friday night. If nolan wanted to go real world, why not just have a character who's skin was bleached white who then applied lipstick and hair dye to complete the ensemble ala the way that Alex Ross views things. That would have looked fine. But no, we get this thing that looks like a reject from a bad horror movie. It's sad, just fucking sad. For the big stink they've been making about the killing joke being the only influence they have for the character in this film, they've gone with a design that looks like a shitty "90's ETREME AND SCARY MAKE OVER" look.

I agree, but also remember that when the fits film came out they lead us all to believe Ken Watanabi was Ra's. So this might actually be an image of one of Joker’s victims.

Also note that the mouth is scared like a big grin, you see the shadows of the scars underneath the lipstick.

Anyway, I will be very pissed if this is the Joker, and very excited if it is revealed this really is not, but instead an image of one of his victims. Let’s just hope Nolan does not plan to meet and beat "The Killing Joke" cause the midgets and what Joker did to Jim in that book was creepy enough, with out having to do a whole shock rock make up job.

there's about as much point in some one trying to beat the killing joke as in some one trying to get cold fusion to work.

That said, CHRIST I HOPE IT'S JUST A VICTIM!

Wo,wo,wo Come on man we all know Marvel likes to sell out when ever they have a movie and for 3 to 4 years make their characters match the film. But I have faith in DC not doing that. Sides DC has worked hard at projecting a "we care about our fans" image for the past few years, which Marvel has yet to do. They say they care with the whole "Your Universe" slogan, but Marvel has yet to “shut up” there editors from bashing the loyal fans while at comic conventions.

So I have faith in DC and in the next Batman film, DC and Nolan knows that the fan base of Batman expect a Joker that matches either classic Finger and Kane, or one that is similar to Alex Ross’s. And Nolan has said over and over he will not portray The Joker like the one in the WB “The Batman” cartoon. So here is hoping.
