thehefner: (Harvey Dent: Arkham)

I spent a good couple hours working on this icon, which I dare say proves that I know my way around MSPaint better than anyone who's ever existed. The original image was a small panel in Dave McKean's brilliant ARKHAM ASYLUM book, and was the only time Two-Face's "evil eye" was actually visible throughout the story. Problem was, in the original image, he was behind a house of cards, so thus yesterday was spent cutting and pasting and cleaning up, and while I'm still not 100% pleased with the final icon result, I'm content for the moment. It's one of those images that really captures the humanity of the character, besides the ferociousness.

Such images are encouraging to me as I write not only the Two-Face novel (approaching 200 pages, appropriately enough) but also a comic script which, if it lives up to its potential, I'm gonna submit to DC.

What's it about? Shortest version I can give is Two-Face vs. Alfred in a game of wits. Problem is, I only wish I were as witty and cool as Alfred Pennyworth. I'm doing my damnedest to study everything that makes Alfred awesome, including a fair amount of Jeeves and Hobson.

Hobson, for those who are not familiar, is Sir John Gielgud's character from ARTHUR, a film I really need to own. Imagine Jeeves if he were an old, bitter, cynical bastard from living with an idiot like Bertie Wooster all those years. There's a moment of his that I'm so tempted to give to Alfred, even though Al's not that far gone yet:

Arthur: I feel unloved, Hobson.
Hobson: ... Would you remove your helmet, please?
Arthur: Why?
Hobson: Please.
[Arthur hands him his helmet]
Hobson: Thank you. Now your goggles.
Arthur: Why?
Hobson: Please.
[Arthur hands him his goggles]
Hobson: Thank you.
[Slaps him across the face repeatedly]
Hobson: You spoiled little bastard! You're a man who has everything, haven't you, but that's not enough. You feel unloved, Arthur. Welcome to the world. Everyone is unloved. Now stop feeling sorry for yourself. And incidentally, I love you.

That said, I'm seriously tempted to have Alfred get so fed up with Harvey that he takes off his white glove as slaps him across his scarred face. But we'll see.

Even if it doesn't work out, doing stuff like this keeps me geeky and occupied, helping me cope while my situation with Dad worsens. The short version now is that there's nothing left they can do. The options are out. Looks like hospice care is the next step. So, yeah, it looks like it won't be long now. But who knows, right?

Who knows indeed.

I guess you never know. Still thinking good thoughts for you and your dad.

Also, that's it. I absolutely require a butler.
