thehefner: (Harvey Dent: I Believe In Harvey)
[personal profile] thehefner
I just completed the penultimate chapter of my Harvey Dent novel. With just the epilogue left to go, and at 64,000 words already, I've nearly finished my third complete manuscript.

Unpublished or not, shit, man, how many middling wannabe writers never even complete their first?

Danny and I hijacked Kali's LJ for an epic BENDIS-OFF, dueling posts trying to out-Bendis each other. Truly, it was a battle for the ages, right up there with Rowdy Roddy Piper and Keith "Not David Keith" David.

Speaking of famous comic writers, I, along with several other people, proceed to disturb, confuse, and terrify Gail Simone by incessantly quoting FRISKY DINGO. Season two starts this weekend, yayyy!

A couple trailers that took my fancy, for very different reasons:

CASSANDRA'S DREAM

Wow. This... this looks great. I mean, I just speak as one who really hopes MATCH POINT wasn't just a fluke, that Woody is reinventing himself in his Golden Years. He showed so much more vitality and vigor in MATCH POINT than any film of his I've seen in years (even the good ones, which--like the work of Stephen King--get ignored amid all the crap!), and I certainly hope he can pull it off again with CASSANDRA'S DREAM.

On the guilty pleasure side of things:

HAROLD AND KUMAR GO TO AMSTERDAM

I still feel like I should be ashamed for enjoying the first one as much as I did. Truly, it was a guilty pleasure. And I cannot wait to take my Mom to see the sequel. Someone put me out of my misery, I beg you.

Good on you, though. I know how tough it is to finish shit. Sigh.

It ain't easy. Not having a life helps.

Even still, it's just the first step. Phase three is profit!

Harold and Kumar is awesome hilarious. There should be a category of film know as "pot humor movies" -- because there are so many classics -- Friday, Half Baked, Harold and Kumar, etc. Don't feel guilty -- I mean do because it's a guilty pleasure -- but there is a reason it hurts so good ;)

Well, while I imagine that watching it stoned certainly couldn't hurt, I think it's kind of a testament that it holds up perfectly well on sober minds.

Certain other things don't have that luxury. Half of AQUA TEEN HUNGER FORCE, I'm looking sqaurely at you...

I look forward to reading it, but I still have like half the script to get through... I'm lazy, sorry about that. But clearly, you are not.

"Guilty pleasure", nothing. Speaking as someone who hates stoner movies and the weird insularness of American drug culture but likes pot, the first one was genius. I'm hesitant about a sequel, but the first one's awesomeness cannot be denied. Plus, Kumar is hot, even though my best friend is jealous of the perceived threat to his "the sexy South Asian in Samara's life" status.

Well, it is a hundred or so page script or something. I'm probably an even slower reader than you, so I'm in no position to judge! Take your time! I'd rather have you actually read and process the stuff than rush it, as your commentary tracks are little Christmases each time.

Did you see the trailer for H&KGTA, or are you at work now and unable to watch videos? It looks like there's real potential for fun!

HAROLD AND KUMAR GO TO AMSTERDAM? ARE YOU QUITE SERIOUS, SIR?

Also, er, can you take my real name out of your link above? I really, really don't like it used online, as I'm kind of a private person. But I'm still snorting loudly with laughter every single time I read that thread, which as of right now is seventeen times (just today!).

Oh, dear. Cozying up to Gaile Simone when she was such an angry bitch to me. Oh, dear, Heffie.

Will do!

"Cozying up"?!

Between you and another friend teasing that I'm being mean to her, I just can't fucking win.

Heck no, I won't put you out of your misery! H&K took the classic piece of insider American culture - the white, affable, young people's comedy - and told it through the eyes of who usually got picked on in those movies. The tiger bit was way over the top, but it was still hilarious. And now they're terrorists?

This has WIN written all over it.

(Reads the Bendis-Off, waves hand frantically in the air.) Oooooh! Oooooh! Now do Joss Whedon!

Oh geez, I dunno if I have it in me to write at length as a petulant, snarky 14 year old girl.

I make no promises. If only because I'm not as constantly exposed to Whedon as I am to Bendis (that's out of personal choice, mind you). But if inspiration hits, you'll be the first to know. Otherwise, I could easily see Whedon fans tears my lack-of-Whedon-knowledge to pieces.

Jeph Loeb or Garth Ennis, on the other hand...

Loeb, Ennis or Whedon? Hmmmm?

Hey that's not bad, just put all three at a table and keep feeding them a steady supply of Johnny Walker. You can sell tickets.
