Speaking as someone who never really listens to metal (at the risk of sounding like a total plebian poseur, I appreciate Metallica's older stuff and Anthrax, but own no albums), let me now declare, just four songs in, that Dethklok's album "Dethalbum" is absolutely ass-kicking head-bangingly fucking magnificent.

I've never before heard something that's so hilarious, while actually being truly awesome. For those who don't watch METALOCALYPSE, imagine a darker, malevolent Spinal Tap, but with actually excellent music to go with the absurd lyrics.

Speaking of those lyrics, it really helps to read alongside them, as I can't understand most of what Nathan Explosion says. But that's the point, isn't it?

This album is most assuredly not dildos.

It's your life. And it's ending one mermaid at a time.

Sorry. Just had to be said.

But it doesn't have any of Toki's Lisa Frank songs ;_;

That is indeed very, very sad. You'd have hoped with the deluxe edition... but alas.

Still pretty darn great, though.

I feel like I should take you under my metal wing.

I still can't believe that Smalls also does Home Movies.

By all means. I'd be honored. Although I'm sure I'll be getting second and counter opinions from the more rock-inclined of my friends like [livejournal.com profile] spacechild and [livejournal.com profile] scarydavedc.

His normal voice is so distinctive (especially in Toki and their manager) that the HOME MOVIES connection was always there for me, and very very welcome. I loved that show (when it was really "on").

Right now I've been relistening to a lot of doom metal, i.e. Pentagram, Witchfinder General, and Saint Vitus. Which as I think about it usually has to do with the seasons changing and the weather outside. Summer, as a rule is usually more lighter fare-- more along the lines of 80s Sunset Striped-soaked metal (Crue, Ratt, Guns n Roses, Dokken) while winter is usually death and/or black metal.

Spring and summer are typically doom/drone, which is more along the lines of Mastodon.

Currently in My Tape Deck:
Witchfinder General
Black Sabbath
Gwar
Candlemass
Kreator
King Diamond
Celtic Frost
Morgoth
Napalm Death

All Time Top 10:
Black Sabbath
Iron Maiden
AC/DC
Judas Priest
Motley Crue
Slayer
Pantera
Motorhead
Mastodon
Venom

In this post-Napster age, I listen to free music via youtube, and whatever's up there. Are there any good gateway tracks I should hear?

I've heard all the Sabbath and AC/DC stuff on the radio, and while I'm not too versed in him, I very much appreciate Randy Rhoads' work.

What's your e-mail address? I can just link you to the "metal" station that I listen to on Pandora.

I'm sure you're familiar with Pandora right? It's a free online radio station essentially that you personalize according to either artist or song "seeds".

Honestly, I'd jump right in.

Grand, thankya!Because yeah, I really should know what they're parodying/tributing.

I mean, I don't want to be any better than those lovers of SHAUN OF THE DEAD and/or SERENITY who don't watch--or claim to hate--zombie movies/westerns.

Tommy Blacha is Toki, man. Brendon plays Skwisgaar.

Oh duh, my brain was bleeding over from Skwisgaar or something. I blame you for implanting Toki in my brain in the first place.

Speaking as someone who has seen Dimmu Borgir, Arch Enemy, Nevermore, and Metallica all in concert (and, in fact, I'm going to see Cannibal Corpse on Friday) I can only declare my undying love for Dethklok.

I'm sure this is clears up why I love cheesy, ultra-violent horror movies. :D

Uh... I know the last band you listed there...?

But no, no, my dear, I don't think that justifies it at all. ;p

Only Metallica albums worth listening to: Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, Metallica (aka the Black Album), and Reload mostly because of "Fuel".

I should definitely stop now.

Yeah, that much I pretty well already know.

No, I love getting people on geek roles!

I meant "rolls." As in "I'm on a roll."

The typo is the result of the actor in me. Also, I didn't want to equate you to some sort of sandwich.

Sounds like a possible ending to a "Choose Your Own Adventure". The title of this post, that is. Much like being slain by a gru.
